Forums - Sales - Wal-mart finally pushing Wii and DS more than Sony products

My Walmart is constantly increasing PS3 space....

Around the Network

my walmart changed its end cap like 8 times.

First it was the PS3, than Madden, than something else, than something else, than Greatest Hits/Best of/Platinum games, now I have no idea as they were changing it as I was leaving.

Still the main wall goes

Case 1 - PS3
Case 2 - PS3/PSP
Case 3 - PS2
Case 4 & 5 - 360
Case 6 - Wii
Case 7 - DS

then opposite of it is PC games and software.

My Walmart has the exact same setup now too.(mainwalkway->Wii endcap->Wii->DS->walkway->360->PS3/PSP/PS2)
Then on the other side of the Wii they have the accessories and a GH DS demo. I was going to give GH a shot, but sadly the DS's bottom screen was cracked. There must be some people in my area going around doing that as I've seen it at all the walmarts in my area. =[

Nintendo has taken over at almost all of the Wal-marts in my area over the last three or four weeks. The amount of Wii/DS games has increased, the amount of PS3/2/P games has decreased, 360 has stayed about the same.

I almost posted this about a week ago, but didn't. Probably happening at most Wally Worlds if it hasn't already.

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

my walmart switched too. It used to be PS3/PSP games on the endcap; 1 case of PSP and PS2 games and 2 cases of 360 games on the left; and 2 cases of PS3/PS2 games followed by 1 of DS, 1 of DS/Wii, and 1 Wii on the right.

Now its random junk on the endcap, Three cases of PS2/PS3/PSP games on the left, and 2 cases of Wii, one of DS, and 2 of 360 on the right.

Not really a conclusive trend, but to be fair, my walmart has less than 10 square meters (~110 square feet) of space allotted for video games.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

I know you are going to blast me for not taking a picture, but it did happen.

Today I was in my local Wal-Mart to buy some basketballs for my 6yr son's team (he just joined his first team and I'm going to coach). As I always do I strolled through the game section and BAM! there it was. The game center was completely switched.

It used to be in this order just a week ago.  mainwalkway->PS3/PSP endcap->PS3/PSP/PS2->360->walkway->Wii->DS. Of course each section had its own demo spots and tvs above.

Now its mainwalkway->Wii endcap->Wii->DS->walkway->360->PS3/PSP/PS2 with the demo spots all moved accordingly.

Nintendomination is clear at this point as not only do Nintendo products now have the higher visibility location, but they also have about 35% more shelf space.

Also, everywhere I go now there are wii fits and wii's instock equally as large as the piles of PS360s. I know this is kinda old news, but I just found it interesting as until the last few weeks I haven't seen more than 2-3 in stock. Now, I see 10+ easily in every store.

The Wal-Marts local to me (In Canada) it have been the following for at least a year:  DS - > Wii -> 360 -> PSP -> PS3

My local Walmarts (yeah there are 3 at about equal distances from me ) have all begun to do this.

I watched for the past few years as the Wii and DS took over the XBox, PS2 and even 360 areas, now they are in the front where the PS3/2/P and 360 display were. I now can get to the games I want to look at quicker :)

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

Good to hear, my local GAME store wasn't like that until a few months ago!

Why so much suprise ? They are clearly pushing what sells best to their customer as any sane shop owner would do.

This initiative started last month... and the truth is that the 360 shelf space is should be equal to or bigger than the Wii or DS with the PS3's significantly reduced.  This varies depending on the size of the store of course, but the 360 at our store has two and a half cases with the Wii at 1 and a half and the DS at 1 and a half.... The 360 sells more software at our store and more variety of software thus the larger case.  The PS3 does barely comparable to the PS2 and PSP who share two cases all together.
