Donkey Kong Country.
Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. were back to back smash hits. Donkey Kong 3 was okay, but it didn't have the magic anymore. After a long break, and the edutainment side project Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Donkey Kong Country became one of the greatest platformers of all time. It had some of the best level design, music, graphics, personality, and secrets of any 2-D platformer.
