Forums - Gaming - If you had to show somebody what is great about gaming with only 5 games...

Mario 64
Gran Tuirsimo 4
Uncharted
God of War
Final Fantasy X

It is hard to just pick five random games though, because you have no idea what this person is into.

Take these as examples;

Five Books I would want people to read to introduce them, granted they already knew how to read

Moonwalk Michael Jackson
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Gooosebumbs Say Cheese and Die
Fahrenheit 451
Dodge Viper by Carney

or Five movies

Terminator 2
Shawshank Redimption
Titanic
Edward Scissor Hands
The Lion King

Lastly Five CD's

Michael Jackson's Dangerous
Kenny Chesney's Be as You Are
Garth Brooks' Sevens
Stripped Christina Aguilera
I Don't Want To Go To School Naked Brothers Band

Now tell me, how many of those do you guys think are soething that would convince you of those formats? Many of you will probably not like a single one of the items I have put forth.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Tough question, though I agree that using old games is not going to convince a lot of people.

So I would not just say "Here are 5 games, now play", butafter playing the first game, I would listen to what the person had to say about it.

So, first I would probably start with something like Super Mario Galaxy. Then I would ask if they wanted something with a real story in it, shooting, racing etc.

Then they might say that something with shooting and realism might be good, so I make them play Call of Duty 4.

And so on...

Oblivion.

Everyone I've shown Oblivion to instantly got addicted to gaming.

Well, you'll wanna make a good first impression. The orginal LoZ isn't going to convince anyone.

I'd show them something like Guitar Hero or Wii Sports first, to get them interested, then move onto something like GTAIV to show them how sophisticated games can be. THEN, I'd show them the classics.

You are going about this all wrong. Really, really.

But shit, five games? Damnation!

I'm going to have to think on this one a while.

C'mon. You put FF6 or Ocarina infront of someone who's never played a game before or has a low opinion of them, they'll just think games are stupid.

GTAIV is not what you use to initiate people after Wii Sports. Criminy. That will make them think games are stupid.

Ocarina's stood the test of time well enough to be included in this list - way before any of the Grand Theft Autos.

People are not going to be impressed by "sophistication". That comes across like a comic book nerd trying to show people how awesome graphic novels are using Sandman: he's right, and Sandman is fantastic, but he still comes across like a nerd trying to puff up a medium that has nothing to it.

Focus on the fun of it, first. If you want to get into sophistication, finish out with it.

I think you took my usage of the word 'sophisticated' way too seriously...
What I meant was, something more complex. Y'know, with a plot and characters and junk. GTA games are always a hit with casuals/non gamers or whatever you want to call them.

Fucking hell, Khuutra. Just leave me alone!

Don't act surprised. You knew what this was.

Must you always be so cryptic?

Oblivion
Age of Empires II
Zelda Twilight Princess
Far Cry 2
Gunsmoke

This is the problem your typical person would have in getting drawn into gaming. There is no list of 5 blanket games to demonstrate what its all about. I can think of one or two games that would have fairly universal appeal, but even those I would not use for certain people. Wii Sports works for a ton of people, but wouldn't make my top 100 for your stero-typical testoterone driven 13-30 year old male. Custom tailor your approach and you can turn anyone into a gamer.
