the ps2 has the biggest and best library and that is fact. im not going to sit and list over a 1000 games for some idiot who doesnt realise the ps2 had a bit of everything.

fps, arcade racers, simulation racers, beat em ups, rpgs, action, adventure, horror, sports, dance mat games, microphone games, golf club games, gun games, boxing glove games, buzzer games, eyetoy games and instrument games.

the variety of games and how to play them trumps any other console from any gen. to denie that is the epitome of ignorance.

sony has chosen to take the ps2 up against the wii and?

it may not have motion controls but does the wii have a singstar game? or a buzz game? or a disney eye toy game? if marketed right there is no reason y the ps2 cant do well. it is cheaper and has a larger library of games and unlike the wii, it plays dvds. bundle the ps2 with family games and dvds and you never know, it may just work.

how is the ps2 trying to compete with the wii? the wii is trying to compete with the ps2 sales wise

I don't deny by any means PS2 huge library and other merits and value, I agree that the idea may work and I wish Sony it does.
Simply it won't compete with Wii, but with XB360 Arcade, maybe Sony isn't willing to admit it because it hopes to let the sleeping dog lie as long as possible, to set MS on the wrong track as long as it can, possibly forcing it to a rushed reaction instead of a carefully planned one, if everything works as Sony would like. Let's not be ingenuous, Sony's propaganda will be even more bombastic, and often weirder, than usual until it will be able to afford a PS3 price cut, in the meantime it's doing well enough and PS2 move may work, but one thing is reality and likely possibilities, another thing is propaganda.

You have to be kidding if you only find two games that interest you to play on a system that cornered pretty much every genre. The games you mention are all relatively mainstream, but the ps2 offers much, much more than popular games. Regardless of what you like there is a lot to play. If MGS is all that interests you after seriously looking, you are just trolling.

Excuse me? I've yet to find any other PS2 games that I NEEDED to play. I don't regret not owning a PS2 last gen. Don't call me a troll for not liking games on the PS2. Also, most multiplat games last gen were superior on GCN.

Many have said simply that the Wii library *isn't* better than the PS2 library.  Which, although it's a matter of opinion, is almost certainly a majority opinion among consumers (probably would have to poll PS2 owners at end-of-PS2-gen vs Wii owners now, or maybe only those who owned both).  Review statistics also back it up.

Yeah, it's opinion.  But saying Wii library > PS2 library, at this point, is laughable.

The PS2 still should have a better library than the Wii being that it is a much older system that received the bulk of the industry's support for twice as long as the Wii has been around for ...

Now, since the XBox 360 was released (and the industry on the whole moved towards "Next Generation" development) there has been very few particularly noteworthy games released on the PS2; and for (roughly) 2 years the PS2's release line-up has been made up almost entirely of the same licenced shovelware that so many PS2/PS3 fans bash for being released on the Wii ... In other words, the PS2's line-up is great if you're looking to play 5 year old games that are hard to find (because they're not being made anymore) but it isn't a great console if you're looking for newer games.

With that said ...

I don't think Sony could really convert the PS2 into a Wii competitor being that there is no way that the PS2 will be able to keep up with the quantity or quality of titles that will be released from now on, and the PS2's sales will drop to (essentially) 0 over the next couple of years. What Sony could be successful at would be to get the PS2 to sell well enough that it can continue to offset their losses from the PS3 until they can reduce its manufacturing costs enough, and increase its software sales enough, so that they can return to profitability before they have to put a lot more money into their next generation hardware.
