It depends on who you ask. Multi-platform developers tend to go for the "Systems are relatively equal because of X,Y,T" for the most part. I tend to believe them more as they have to be intimately familiar with both architectures.

Sure, relatively equal. If they weren't, there would not even be the issue.

But being close does not mean they are equivalent. I simply said that it can't be proven that whatever one does, the other can come so close to do that it is indistinguisheable.

It doesn't mean that I think obsessing over such things is any good, and I think that multi-platform developers have this same attitude and just prefer not being pulled into pissing contests.

Basically we'll get the games we'll get, and that's how good the consoles will be.

haha give us some proof of tip top graphics on the 360 then. Everyone keeps saying it can be done on 360 give us some proof

I'm sure it will run on 1080p... not in that shameful 720p ....

Every time I see a (pixelized) ladder or a turret in KZ2... it makes me sad...

LOL

The 360 can't run Gears of War 2 in native 1080p, and you want it to run an even better looking game in it?

Wow, I didn't know there were so many game developers on this site.

A lot of you talk like you know 360 and PS3 capabilities inside out. There are several facts that sre known...

KZ2 is the best looking game so far this generation. Before that I think Gears 2 was, and before that Call of Duty 4 was. So, to judge which machine is more capable I think we will just have to wait and see as the generation unfolds. Each game release seems to be uping the ante. People are saying Unchartered 2 is better, but if you have seen Alan Wake footage it doesn't look too shabby either.

Also, to date, we have seen very few if any multi-platform games that are truely superior on PS3. In many cases the opposite has been true. This has improved a lot in the past year and there is probably untapped potential in the PS3, but for coming out a year later, then having superior technical specifications it has little to show as far as results.

Finally, Christian is a well respected developer throughout the industry. He knows a lot more then we do. He may not be a PS3 expert but he is definately a 360 expert and if he thinks he could do something on 360 I would take his word on it over anyone on this site.

Difficult to read the post once I read Hiphopgamer.

There is a huge difference between "can be done on the 360" and has been done on the PS3.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

There are alot of good things to talk about in that interview but you guys choose to talk about the headline which has been discussed to death in theese forums.

There is nothing one of the two HD consoles can do which the other can´t come close enough to call it a draw.

Those of you who think other wise think with your preferences instead of logic.

This is impossible to prove, though.

Since the two consoles are too different to be ranked in a theoretical way, at any given moment, the only hard evidence we have on the issue is the quaility of existing games.

Leaving the silly headline aside, anyway, the weirdest answer was the one about OnLive. The developer mixed up digital distribution and streaming and didn't voice the obvious doubts any programmer has about the enterprise - in particular the viability of real-time high quality video compression and the unavoidable network lag. My conclusion is that he didn't really know what the OnLive guys promised.

My statement is more true then x console is better then y console.

The games are so close so to really know which one is better (if one is noticable better then the other) we will have to become programing experts on both platforms which we aren´t.

The console are basicly equaly strong, they have both their areas which they excel over the other. At the moment KZ 2 is the best looking game but that isn´t the same as the Cell is as powerful as god wished he was.

I think the most important part in this interview is the part where he says that it isn´t as hard as it used to be to program games for the PS 3 which I think is a great step forward not only for Sony and their fans or the PS 3 but for us gamers in general.

There's also such thing as professional pride. An engineer looks at a beautiful, bleeding edge car engine and says he can project one at least as good as that. Would you take his word about it only because he's an engineer and you're not?

First of all I would wait for him to formulate an informed statement, for example after taking the other engine apart or making objective tests. Just look at what the guys at Digital Foundry did: they made a whole series of commented videos about the KZ2 engine, its features and its performance, analyzing framerates with their dedicated hardware and going in stopmotion to detail the effects.

Then I would look at the engineer's portfolio of past works. This could give me confidence in the value of his words, or not, but doesn't make a proof.

In the end, the only way to prove a bar can be raised or a benchmark beaten is to actually commit to raise that bar or set a new benchmark. So I'd hand him the pencil, the paper and the wrench.

Yeah, I understand your point of view. I'm just taking the empirycal approach of saying that I don't care that much about theorical power, I'll just take the games themselves as the best demonstration. Bring them on.
