It's an issue of extending the platform's life. The apps, especially, should give it a little kick.
None too keen on this idea of DSi-only cartridges that they pitched around, though.

@Jo21: I don't know the resolution DSi uses for videos, but it does the real-time image processing with face recognition for videos aswell (while the mobile phones drop the resolution usually to fit the screen resolution, if not lower), so the in this case, the size of the CCD is rather irrelevant, especially when the purpose of the pixel count is purely marketing.
Secondly, devices today, that have as little power as DS, are pretty rare. My 80€ phone is about 10% more powerful than PSP, with about 3 times the RAM.
The biggest problem of the high pixel number is the noise that the reduced size of the CCD causes. If you don't need a lot of pixels, it's better to use a CCD with lower resolution, since the quality is essentially better with the same physical size.
Also, the cheap mobile phones doesn't have as big screen as DS, which eat up a lot of space.
By the way, does anyone know was the 33Mhz ARM-7 dropped out or does it still remain?

I'm seriously debating if I should go over and pre-order a DSi right now. The bigger screen is the hot feature for me right now. I just got my DSL last October though... So I dunno.

You make it seem like it's got a lot over the PSP. PSP processor = 333 mHz PSP = Pro Stick Duo Support since launch DSi wins in the sense that it has an onboard memory and levels of brightness available and thinness levels. Also, a 0.3 megapixel camera. My cell phone that died and went to phone heaven 2 years ago had at least a 1.3 megapixel camera and it was the cheapest phone I could get. The least Nintendo could have done was put a 1.3 megapixel camera on the outside camera. I'm still planning on getting a DSi, but it's not nearly the technological achievement that you seem to think of it to be. |
His post had more to do with features as opposed to processing power - the latter of which isn't really important.
Does the added processing power mean more players online? For example if Ninty makes a DSi only Mario Kart, featuring real online with lets say 8 player.. That would be awesome.
@Guovssohas: Processing power has very little to do with online. I believe Mario Kart DS could have had more players online, but was 4 players at a time because of keeping the lag as small as possible. I do agree that four players was way too little due to people shutting their DS:s when they were losing.

| numonex said: DS combined Lite and DS have sold over 100 million portables in total. April 2 2009, Nintendo launch the Nintendo DSi. Two cameras inbuilt into the DSi, DS gets a redesign, DSi games are on the way and it is compatible with all DS/Lite games. Thats sounds all good but i dont get the fascination people have with handhelds Now what the hell is Sony going to do now with PSP, to counter this genius move by Nintendo? I think the PSP4000 will come out later this year |

Play Me
Ok. The online on MK DS really sucks, full of disconnecting cowards, + only 4player. So an updated MK with improved online would be welcome, it should be very much like MK Wii's online.
