Forums - Nintendo - Mad World, WTF happened!?!?!?!

Meh. This game really isnt that great. Anyone who was able to see through it is smart. Its a fun game but not worth $50. I doubt too much money went into this game anyways. They'll easily make a profit when all is said and done.

Just because this gamed was aimed at the enthusiasts doesnt mean it HAS to or WILL sell. Its not that great. Also new IP is a bitch to sell. Then again Bioshock/Gears of War and others say otherwise. Then again those are shooters. Because Mirror's Edge with a ton of advertisement flopped. Then again no 3rd Party Wii game will ever get the amount of hype that a HD game will unless its 1st party.

In the end I dont care. People can bitch but nothing DESERVES to sale. This game didnt appeal to a lot of people and it wasnt that fucking amazing.

The problem with Madworld is its longevity as a game, when you learn that is a very short game and lacks a lot of game modes that would have been interesting in it then the interest for the game disappears.

The score system is just a big error of design, traditional beat´em ups are based under the idea of getting as far as possible but the lenght of the game never varies with the ability of the player, in Madworld if you are very good you can make the game in less than 2 hours.

Madworld is a good game, the "hardcore" audience on the Wii was craving for a game like that but when it gets released people just dont buy it. I did not expect monster sales but the numbers at the moment are somewhat dissapointing.

I've said it number of times, that this game is very niche and only caters to a very narrow group of gamers because of its artstyle, content and gameplay. And it wouldnt sell tons more on PS3 or the 360 either (since those consoles tend to sell big graphic packed blockbusters, mainly, and smaller games usually get ignored).

My initial expectations were around 600k, now i still have a hope for 500k. But ill be all right with 400k. Its a wii game so it could develop some sort of legs like De Blob, Wario Land etc. etc.

in the end madworld imo will sell around no more heroes numbers ~300-500k tops most likely.

i like the game alot- well done, not quite in my tastes but well done.

Yes i bought it.

the game "main stream" devs with mainstream (read FPS) appeal are paying attention to is The Conduit-if THAT bombs (provided it is as good as previews are saying) then kiss quality 3rd party mature games bye bye.

I can't understand why anyone would try to use Madworld as a "test" for Wii sales. Seriously - THIS game?! Madworld is the antithesis of everything I look for in a game: extremely short, little replay value, and gory violence for violence's sake. I simply can't fathom why the gaming industry gave this game a bunch of 9s in their review scores. Only teenagers would think this game is awesome... oh, wait, I forgot that the entire traditional gaming industry is based on catering to that audience, sigh...

Finally, a voice of reason. I couldn't agree more.

Now, can we stop trying to prove how "hardcore" we are with M-rated games and just focus on games that have real depth and quality, ie. games that don't need to use the tired marketing device of more-violence-than-those-other-sissy-games ?

I thought we already discussed that thousands of times before ¬¬
MW is a game that aims to a very small segment of gamers. Not to the mainstream.

The only reason that I got it so quickly is that I picked it up as part of a special Target promotion this week (Buy 2, Get 1 Free -- all Wii games $14.99 to $49.99).

And since I had been wanting to get Shaun White, I decided to take a chance on Madworld (though I have yet to had the chance to play it).

I actually started two threads about the decision to first not buy, then to buy the game.

For most Wii owners, T-titles are going to sell much better. They are the mainstream. Not the "core" gamer who likes the M-rated game.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Didn't we already have this thread like a week ago?

Actually I don't think it's the 'M' rating in and of itself, it's the ridiculous amount of swearing and violence in these Sega titles that are a problem for anyone with kids (or a wife...).   It's just not appropriate for a living room experience.   However RE:Darkside Chronicles or Dead Space will likely do much better (not because it's online) because people won't mind playing them in front of older kids / wives, etc.

The Conduit should do much better.    I also think MadWorld will show legs at the $30 price point.

Someone please let me know why I am supposed to buy it. I don't get it. Not sure why because it uses black and white (and red all over), and you throw guys into dumpsters that chop them in half, I am supposed to go: "OOOO I MUST GET THIS!" Maybe someone can lay a guilt trip on me where doing this supposedly is critical for the health of the industry.

Apparently, though, I am not totally opposed to this arteest stuff. I did pick up Alien Hominid on the the 360 (eventhough I have it on the PS2), and you get to throw federal agents in a wood chipper. Just not sure what is with all this fricken hype behind Madworld by people on here.  A key to quality, beyond good execution, is a game has you doing something you want to do.
