Forums - Nintendo - Reggie demands to know why RE5 and some other Capcom games aren't on Wii

In RE4 I LOVED the QTE's. They turned boooring cutscenes into somthing exciting. Now some fanboys want to trash those very same QTE's in RE5? BS alert!

Also I want you to think back to the SNES era: Secret of Mana. Now in secret of Mana you had allies. Now THAT was some retarded allies. But when you played this game with friends it was one of the best multiplayer game ever made. Without that multiplayer the game would have been just another forgetable Zelda Clone.

Fast forward to Resident Evil 5 Where yes somtimes Sheva acts retarded. It's only a Minor annoyance for what could be the best co-op experiance of all time.

@ Happy. The Wii has a bigger marketshare the PS360PC combined? Midway hasn't had a hit since Mortal Kombat that's why they went under.

Most Wii fans have been convinced of this for ages sadly they still don't get that most publishers are treating PS360 as a single platform during most of the development...( especially those like Capcom that have developed their internal tools supporting both HD consoles).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Since you liked the QTE's in RE4, it's a BS fanboy alert when someone else doesn't like RE5 QTE's? That doesn't make any sense, so I'll assume you meant that people who liked them in RE4 should feel the same about RE5, right?

Well I didn't like them in RE4 either. The only thing RE5 did worse was add them at the most random times, when you were least expecting it in some cases. Was it fun for me? Hell no, all it did was make me watch the goddamn cutscene over so this time I could randomly press a button to continue. In the case where I get a QTE out of NOWHERE way after the last boss is dead, miss it, and have to redo the entire last fight is just complete bullshit in my eyes.

Secret of Mana was an amazing game, and the only time I ever played it was with my other friend. I can't remember what the third character (controlled by AI) was doing, but it must have never been very annoying because I don't remember it being annoying.

It seems that a lot of people understand how to use Sheva, but in my mind that's not something I feel like burdening myself with while playing. I don't know why, I just don't like it. Online co-op is great, but so many other games do co-op better in my mind that when this game has nothing else very definitive about it, I might as well play those other games like Left4Dead.

EDIT: Ah I haven't tried Mercenaries yet, my friend said it was great, but it doesn't sound like fun to me at all. Maybe I'll check it out later. is it single player, single play with AI Sheva, or multiplayer?

@Megadude

The Wii hasn't past 50% of marketshare but I'm fairly certain that the number of households with Wii systems is greater than the number of households that have a PS3 and/or an XBox 360 ...

Beyond that, even if they don't, why would anyone "with 2 braincells" be able to answer why companies are willing to go bankrupt rather than to produce decent games for 49% of the market when the development costs associated with that 49% of the market is 1/3 to 1/4 the development cost of the other 51% of the market?

Edit: As for the comment on Midway ... You don't need a "Hit" to be a profitable well run company. There are quite a few companies (Majesco for example) who have developed a business model where their development costs are low enough that they can survive off of very low sales.

Capcom is successful on PS3 and Xbox360, just check the sales:

  • Dead Rising (Xbox360) 1.65 million
  • Street Fighter (PS360) millionseller on both platforms for sure
  • Resident Evil (PS360) probably more than 2 million on both platforms
  • Lost Planet (Xbox360) 1.75 million

Some great numbers, right?

Games to be released:

  • Bionic Commando (PS360)
  • Lost Planet 2 (Xbox360)

I bet, both will sell great as well. Games like Dead Rising, Bionic Commando or Lost Planet wouldn't sell on the Wii. Check Madworld, check HotD. Even Street Fighter would not sell on the Wii. Capcom has some "hardcore" games and they are releasing their hardcore games on the "hardcore" platforms. That just makes sense.

Bionic Commando and Street Fighter would sell well on Wii, because they have history on Nintendo. If Capcom where smart at marketing it ie release the nes version on VC, two weeks before Bionic Commando came out, it would generate hype.

Just watch Punch Out Wii, you will see what I mean. That game will sell because of history behind it.

Actually, he's just wrong with that statement because Wii doesn't have a bigger market than all those combined.

In all seriousness, I think Reggie was wondering about the effort, not the game itself, I personally don't like RE5 and don't even want it on Wii because this one was kind of a dissapoint for me, it doesn't know what it wants to be. At least the story is somewhat intact though.

Single player no AI or Co-op ( online or splitscreen). Definitly a tonn easier in co-op but I only play solo.( co-cop face the same thing as solo player with slightly stronger enemies )

Beat a relatively easy score( B=20k) and you unlock the next map, beat a slightly harder score( A = 40k) and you unlock a new character. Each character has a preset list of weapons....

There's a total of 9 maps and 10 characters ( well 4 characters , some with 2 outfits, some with 3).

There is an online leaderboard.

Each map can actually be beaten but it's very very hard solo, fairly doable duo though ( 150 enemies + 1 chicken on each map,  there's only 2-5 players worldwide that have beaten maps others than the first while playing solo).

Let me tell you the dudes were sofa king in secret of Mana. But see? You didn't notice because you were playing with a friend.

Resident Evil 4 was the begining of the third person game revolution. I find it funny when people say things like "gearz is better" don't these people know that the developers of gears were HEAVILY influenced by RE4?

You think that RE5 isn't as revolutionary as RE4; in terms of gameplay you are right. The revolution is not just that it's in HD with purdy graphics but also that you can share this crazed out bugged cinimatic action pack experiance with a friend in real time. That is somthing you could NEVER do in RE4. If you ignore that, then you ignore hlaf of what makes the game great.

I hate this kind of topic. It turns ok posters into trolls.

I really don't care about this game but I would be curious to hear Capcom reason as to why the game isn't on the Wii.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Capcom is nowhere near going bankrupt and actually doing very well financially ( the topic of this thread is about Capcom right ?).

Now if you want more shovelware from company like Midway and Eidos , go for it...

For someone who insults other people about their intelligence you're not particularly bright ...

My comment on this thread was about videogame "Journalists" asking third party publishers why they didn't produce "Hardcore" franchises for the Wii rather than write rants about why the Wii didn't have these games. Very few of the large western publishers (EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Take Two, Midway, etc.) are particularly healthy, and yet no one has asked why they choose to ignore the Wii in favour of producing games that (on the whole) do not recover their development costs.
