It should get a decent sized increase, but nowhere near what the PS3 will sell. Maybe if anything this will increase PS3 sales as people will be more inclined to buy the lower PS3 sku and spend the extra hundred for PS2 BC.

PS2 sales were slowly dying in US, I'm sure they'll still make a small profit off of PS2 hardware which is better than nothing they'd get if they allowed PS2 to die. I really don't see PS2 and PS3 in competition with each other at all, $99 last gen console isn't going to eat into the sales of $399 current gen console, they're at completely opposite ends of the market.

I doubt it will outsell PS3, but it should give it a short term boost and extend it's life somewhat.

You do know that it sold 60,000 PS2 consoles last week, right? And about 24,500 of them were in America. It's hard to say there is no more interest left from people. 

It should jump back to near 200,000 for a couple months. I'm a bit surprised Sony didn't announce it for April 5th, because that is the start of NPD April, and the first $99 PS2 week will probably be double the previous week, before a stabilization at ~40,000/~45,000 instead of the ~30,000-35,000 PS2 has been selling at lately.

So March is gonna be something like 30k*4 + 60k to 33k * 4 + 65k which is 180k to 200k for PS2...but had the cut happened in April it could have been 65k, 50k, 45k, 45k or 205k. But with the instant boost now split over two NPD periods its gonna be probably 180k for two months.

i think PS2 will sell more than the XBOX360 in Japan for at least 1 month...what yall think about that?

ps2 #s WW and NA are pretty low
