Forums - Sony - Should Squilliam get Demon Souls?

I heard that the game was pretty difficult and unforgiving. Maybe someone on vgchartz could confirm it.

I've read the entire neogaf official thread and i'd say thats a fair assessment. apparently the gameplay is done so that if you get sloppy fighting even weaker enemies, they can kill you. just remember this is not a hack n slash. if you are signed in to psn while playing, player killers can join at random and try to kill you (within a certain level range). there are one-hit-kill booby traps (no quick time events lol). enemies respawn if you die, you lose all your unspent "souls" if you die again before you can recover your corpse. that said, the player impressions are overwhelmingly positive and they say not to get too worried about dying, especially early on.

there is also a demon's souls wiki with lots of information

While the game has performed well in Japan and was acclaimed by Japanese customers, I would really wait for some Western reviews.

how long is the game ??

there's no guarantee this game will be released in north america, so there may never be more than a few western reviews. those who it would appeal to know about it are able to import it... in english with english voice acting nonetheless.

I think Bugrimmar > Squilliam. but that's just me.

on topic: the reviews don't say much about the game. it seems a tad mediocre for my taste.

The reviews definitely says they liked it.

I've always thought of you as a 360 fan and a PS3 basher. So, it would surprise me if you had a PS3. However, since you seem like an xbox fan, then you probably know that From has made some good xbox cult classics like Otogi and Otogi 2 (and the soon to be a cult classic imo Ninja Blade). So, if you like those games and you have a PS3, then you would probably like to pick up Demon's Souls. It is supposed to be one of the favorite games in Japan.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

from what i saw it looks to be a decent game. but i haven't seen / heard anything about the story. but the game play / visuals are decent enough to justify a purchase. im waiting for an western release to pick it up. so yes you should.

I got my copy, and I am now 5 hours in. I'm playing as a noble.

Very good game so far. Squill, you will probably like it but remember this game isn't arcadey like fable 2. You need to parry, block, backstab, evade, and use magic/ranged attacks wisely to survive. Enemies will parry your attacks if you're not careful and open you up for critical hits. There is a stamina meter that once depleted, your blocks become useless and your attacks are slowed. If you are fighting multiple enemies when this happens, you will die very quickly if you're not careful. You can die very quickly even if that doesn't happen. The combat reminds me of Oblivion, except that it doesn't suck. I'm going to write a mini-review, but not for another week or so. If you're up for a challenge, I say go for it.
