Forums - Nintendo - The choice of a Wii owner -- or why I bought non M-rated games

I remember a recent article that said that M-rated games are more popular among young men, than actual adults. So that demographic is pretty much owned by the HD consoles. I believe that once you are "mature" you buy your games based on personal preferences and take other things in consideration (like you kids); instead of buying into the hype of the next bloody title.

I remember when MK came out, I was around 17, and the only reason I liked the game was due to the blood and stuff. But now I couldn't care less about stuff like that.

Maybe you should've gotten Rune Factory Frontier as one of your 3. I heard it lasts a long time, and was pretty good (8.3 IGN)

Target doesn't carry stock of Rune Factory Frontier. They didn't get any and they will not be getting any.

I thought about getting one the game M-rated games -- then I could not decide which one to get.  I usually don't get to start playing games til about 10 p.m. -- so there really isn't much time in the evening as it is.

Still, I am thinking I should see if I can exchange one title for Madworld. I have to drive past there on the way home.

I plan on gettintg them eventually after all.

If time constraints are an issue Madworld might be a good choice actually. It's a short game, and it's broken into stages, all of which have a 30 min time limit.

I just got back from the Target sale myself. Got almost the same things you did; Shaun White, Sonic Black Knight, and House of the Dead Overkill.

I wanted Rune Factory: Frontier, but like outlawauron said, Target doesn't stock it. =P

It's OK, I just bought Wii Fit for my girlfriend.

That is a shame, because it is much better than the RPG he got, Final Fantasy: Echoes of Time on the Wii.

Rune Factory Frontier is a underrated game. I can put it in the league of games like Super Mario Galaxy and stuff. But if retailer thinks the game is mediocre or doesn't look like it will sell, stock on that game will be small. It's a shame because games that are truly mediocre like Bullet Witch for the Xbox 360 or Ninja Bread Man for the Wii you will see more of those than a game like Rune Factory.

I'm in the same boat as you Mike. I would buy some M rated games, but I wouldn't want my daughter to watch while I play them. Also playing family oriented games, such as Boom blox is a blast cause you get to spend quality time with your family and play video games at the same time ;)

I had a choice to make at Target this morining.

The mass retailer is running a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free Sale" for all Wii games priced $15-$50 ($14.99-$49.99).

I wanted to get a copy of the special Target edition of Shaun White ($50)  That was the only reason that I went for this sale (usually I wait and buy used or later in the cycle).

So I needed to get two more games. I picked Sonic & the Black Knight ($50) and FF: Chronicles of Time ($40 -- free) for my games.   I realize that both games have gotten medicore reviews. But I am a sucker for Sonic (and plan to get Unleashed on sale soon) and love RPGs (and hope to link up the Wii and DS versions).

I could have gotten MadWorld or HotD: Overkill or CoD: WaW or even Dead Rising.

But my main game playing partner is my six-year-old son. So I had trouble bringing myself to getting uber-violent games or record-swearing games or an FPS like the other FPS (MoH2) that I haven't played or the violent adventure game that I have not played (NMH).

I guess you have to take away my gamer card.

But this could be what is driving (and not driving) Wii game sales.

I applaud you for your mature decision.  To me maturity keeps children safe from abusive content.  You did just that. You did the right thing.

So did you trade one of those games back in for MadWorld?

After making that big stand ... I actually went back and swapped Sonic for MadWorld.

With parental controls on the Wii -- and since I wanted to put my money where my mouth was as far as differnt titles -- I felt it was the right play.

And yes, I know the FF title is somewhat medicore. But if I get my son the DS version, then we can play together (this is not quite as far fetched as it sounds as he/we are playing Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door right now on the Gamecube).
