Huh, I just re-read Daemon's review, I don't see where he bashes the genre itself. He simply states that the game is doing nothing new, which could be forgivable if it was doing what it does well, but it doesn't.

Well besides him basically dissing the genre as a whole in the initial paragraph, he complained about new equipment being available when you reach a new town. He seems to forget about the synthesis system which is also away to acquire new gear.  More importantly, new gear becoming available at new towns describes the vast majority of JRPGs.

Ugh, that's something I hate about RPG's, jRPG's especially. I don't see why he's not allowed to complain about that, it's certainly something they could improve upon. It happens in tRPG's too, and it's always annoying.

Oh they certainly can change things up when it comes to procuring equipment but Daemon's review seems to make it seem like it's outside of the norm. In The Last Remnant for example, you can only upgrade your lead characters equipment directly. As you find materials or weapons through the course of the game, the other characters ask for them. It can be annoying at times but it's pretty cool overall.

I agree with the varying points here form what Ive seen thus far. Of course, I'm going to play the game full through. I think the main thing I don't like the way they advertise 4 players when the other players have to sit idly by for over a half hour. If we're going to kick arse together, let us get at it right away.

Reading things like this makes me wonder if I should go back and actually play Symphonia. I am playing Vesperia now and love it, but you guys make these Symphonia games sound more like a chore than a game. -_-

No, they make DotNW sound like a chore, not the first one. We're pretty unanimous in our praise for GC's Symphonia. But so far, I think DotNW is great.

I hear some saying that the voice acting in Symphonia was atrocious and I personally got as far as the Fire Temple(?) and that angel or whatever had such terrible voice acting and I already dread not having voice acting in my skits.

I'll play it though, but I have a feeling it may prove difficult. I also have Abyss to go through, but I really enjoyed that game so it shouldn't be too much of an issue, even without the VA's during skits.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

you know you can turn off voice acting in skits, i'm pretty sure.

No, I like the VA during skits, but I dislike the VA in Symphonia as a whole. That part of my post was kind of confusing now that I read it again.

I didn't take the time to read all of the 5 pages worth of comments here but I figured I'd share my tidbits because I have delved deeply into this game for the past week. I thoroughly enjoy it (coming from someone who views the first one as one of the best RPG's) I don't think I couldn't like it if I tried. I do have issues with it. As you mentioned, slow responses from characters. I've had cutscenes freeze. These things are quite frustrating. It makes me wonder if they didnt take enough time to fix the bugs or if the Wii couldn't handle it. I have never heard my Wii so loud during loading until playing this game. Either way, I still love it.

Currently playing: Okami (Wii), The World Ends With You (DS), and Shenmue (Dreamcast)

Dawn of the New World is great, the reviews created a bad image for the game

it's not like Zelda or Mario Galaxy or previous ToS of course, but it's a great game, worth buying

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Ok, so I've started playing this game, and I'm already frustrated. Why does it take nearly a half hour to get to the tutorial for this game? I was so exhausted of the story by this point, paired with the slow responses between characters that I fought the aqua monster, saved and shut the game off.

I would think that developers would realize by now that gamers need to be immersed in the game quickly. A tutorial so far into the game is simply aggrivating.

Oh, and can the main character possibly BE any more whiny?

Emil is pretty awful but he goes into moron mode when Richter is around.

Marta is okay but it's like the writers gave her bipolar.  Half the time she's smart and intelligent, the other half of the time it's like the writers swapped her brain out for Colette's.

Just wait though, the game gets much worse.  Mediocrity is looking like a compliment to this game.

Actually, the game doesn't get much better with time. Emil is still annoying as hell until the end of the game. The pokemon monster catching thing is retarded. The plot is also rather ridiculous and has little to do with that of the original game. I think it a worse spinoff than FFX-2 was.

That's not possible. If wanted to see Charlies Angels, I would have rented the DVD. FFX-2 is travesty and that is inspite of the top notch play. The bastardization of the Final Fantasy X characters and overall universe is just plain unforgiveable. Not to mention the story has was beyond ridiculous. I mean the series of events and unlikelihoods that would have to be brought about for the FFX-2 plot to be possible is ridiculous, even by gaming standards. I think the only character that remained consistent between FFX and FFX-2 was Rikku. Sorry for the mini rant but FFX-2 is one of my most hated games in the series.

Dawn of the New World makes FFX-2 look like FF6.
