9. No optical out. Not a major complaint, but I really wish there were.

To get optical out on the 360 you need to purchase the "Xbox 360 HDMI AV cable"

Which comes with an hdmi cable and it also comes with another attachment(breakout box) which has a red/white audio connection(e.g. rca), it also has a digital optical out connector(toslink).

The combo(hdmi cable + audio breakout box) also comes with the 360 Elite if you purchased that. That was one reason I picked up my Elite, as I have the digital optical out on the 360 connected to my 5.1 surround sound receiver.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-HDMI-AV-Cable/dp/B000UODATY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1238359033&sr=1-1

"Product Description
The Xbox 360 HDMI Cable provides gamers with separate audio and video connections via the included Audio Adapter. The Audio Adapter allows HDMI video to be routed to the HDTV with the audio routed SEPERATLY to the home speaker system. Without the Audio Adapter the video and audio signals are both carried by the HDMI cable. This means users without an HDMI receiver (new/costly) must listen to their Xbox 360 game and movie audio via their TV speakers. * One wire for both digital audio and video * Experience high definition movies and games at up to 1080p resolution * Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound output * Optical/RCA Audio Adapter included for non-HDMI supported stereo systems * 2 meter (6.5 feet) shielded cable"

Holy crap that's expensive.  And although I could live with just using the component cables, it would have been nice to just include the optical out on the console itself.

Here are the reasons I haven't bought an XBox360 again:

1.  XBox Live Gold - What a joke.  When all you are paying for is the ability to play games using someone else's connection, it's ridiculous that they make you pay for it.  Can you imagine the uproar if Valve decided to charge $40/year for Steam?

2.  Proprietary hardware - Let me use my current bluetooth headset, instead of spending $50 for yours.  Let me stick in a 320GB HDD for $50 instead of spending $100 for a 60GB.

3.  Lack of built-in wifi - Seriously, even the DS has it.  The DS has wifi and your home console doesn't.

And while these next 3 won't stop me from getting an XBox360, they annoy me:

4.  D-pad - Fix it.  Fix it.  Fix it.  Fix it.  It's easily the worst d-pad ever made.

5.  Power brick is ugly.

Xbox Live is part of Microsoft's business model for the 360 and one of the reasons the 360 is so cheap (hardware wise) because they can make profit elsewhere. Same thing with their accessories which are definately overpriced.

1. Not a big fan of the comparison but yeah I get your point.

2. Good point though I guess it enables the 360 to be sold cheaply.

3. Again very good point but again see above.

4. Yep it is pretty bad. I shouldn't have to fork out more money for a decent d-pad featuring a decent. I'm surprised nothing has been done about it.

5. Yeah it is but mine is well out of the way so I never see it. In fact you've just reminded me it has one.

there are a few things on the list i totaly agree with. the battery thing was really annoying too, that's y i got the rechargable battery pack and the plug and play kit. one of my biggest annoyances with the 360 is how loud it is. i really hope they come out with a slim version of it that is as quiet as other systems.

1.Xbox live-(WtF my friend has to PAY for XBL when he is over a few times a month and we are on the same fking console, really MS?) MS just trying to make more money bill gates is proly trying to become the richest man again haha

2.Batteries -Really? Honestly Batteries? Wii has batteries there are also rechargable packs you can buy

3.Rumbling DVD drive. Mine works fine

4.Everything cost MS points, just about everything at least, can i get a (Good)free track for GH WT? No dam..Well must you always relay on dlc and games off the arcade

5.No reward for buying GOLD,Cmon MS give us 500 MS points for every 3 months we buy of XBL,plz? NOW THIS IS A SMART IDEA

6.Wired stix suck! The cord somehow got bent and well if you move it anyway it comes unpluged, not really unpluged but disconnected cause the wires are messed up. Well idk what this is haha

7.Hype? MS didnt play L4D at all,an exclusive to the Xbox 360 console but they dont say crap about it,show it off its an AAA game,or any other big games besides Halo and Gears, why MS why? You dont always have to hype games i havnt seen a single valkyria chronicles commercial (SP on the name)

8.Where is my Slim 360? Where is my slim ps3?

1) Pay for Live ($60/year)

2) Loud as Hell

3) Controller charger sold separately ($20?)

4) If you move the system at all while its on, your disk is going to be scratched (had this happen to my GTA4)

5) The grey brick power cord thing weighs a ton/takes up a lot of room

6) In game dashboard is really slow sometimes

7) Lots of online lag

Yeah I can only think of 7. I have never been affected by RRoD so thats why I didn't include it. And stuff like games and 12 year olds on live aren't the systems fault so they aren't included either.

Edit:

8) Microsoft points are horrible. Why/how is it 800 MS points = $10? That makes no fucking sense. Why can't 10 points = $10 or even if 100 points = $10.

From the little bits of experience I've had with the 360, the only things I don't like are:

1. The placement of the left joystick. I didn't like this with the original xbox as well because it made my left thumb feel weird.

2. Some standard features are missing...no wifi? WTF?

3. M$ points. It's a nice way to keep the consumer stuck spending on live but I personally would rather pay regular cash

4. live fees. I really despise hidden fees and I have my "broke" moments so I'd rather have everything in one package

5. This is minor but the 360 seems to have tons of whiny kids on the mic!

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Good too see 360 owners are able to discuss the console's shortcomings in such a civil way. Kudos to you (and me!).

And this couldn't be more true.

Basically, those official MS peripherals from the overpriced HDDs to the overpriced WiFi adapter, battery packs, etc. and the XBL Gold fees are subsidizing the very reasonable cost of the 360 Arcade, of which I am positive MS is currently losing money on per unit.

But the whole official peripheral sales to support console losses is nothing new; they've always been among the most profitable aspects of console gaming to platform developers. For both retailers and manufacturers.

(and count me among the masses still wondering why the D-pad on the controller is so ridiculously awful)
