Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GDC: We’re “broader” than mature-rated content, says Nintendo

One day, there shall be a squad of people who bolt down goal-posts in the position they are in, foiling the efforts of the goal-post movers

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Rated N for Nintendo.

They aleready said at GDC that the percentage of Wii owners who hadn't owned a console was 20%.... so there are still more Wii owners who were already gamers than there are X360 owners.

Good point.  The only thing is that they were playing Mario then and they are playing Mario now... not too interested in new mature IP.

This question always comes up when a nintendo system comes along and the answer is the same thing every time. No matter how hard Nintendo tries to make it not, it will always be the "Kiddy" system. Nothing will change that because Nintendo doesn't have the proper knowledge to make a hardcore game for hardcore gamers. Nothing has changed in the past five generations of nintendo consoles. They're still refurbishing the same old "E" rated games and reselling them to its giant fanbase. Its not that they're broader than that, its that they don't know how to make a hardcore "M" rated game.

I think the Wii can sell M rated games - just that they will sell much less than the most popular family/fun titles on the platform, and that is never going to change so anyone expecting such titles to light the charts on fire is going to be disappointed.

Conversely M rated games sell better on PS3/360, but so far look at sales of family/fun titles vs the big AAA shooters and the like on those consoles, near enough the inverse of the Wii.

There is no actual news here, just a comment on something clear from the consoles ownership demographics. The Wii has by far the broadest set of owners and can support most genres, just not equally.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

This is... wow.

That's a Hell of a first post.

You really think they're still refurbishing the same old "E" rated games, especially this gen?

I guess this makes the Touch and Wii generation stuff "non-games" then.

Nintendo doesn't have to make M-rated games.

Just because a game has an M-rating doesn't mean it is automatically good.

Okay honestly, name five wii games that have successfully used the motion sensitivity WELL to its fullest potential.

For the touch matter, i loved Phantom Hourglass. It was phenominally good, but that is what nintendo needs to do with more of its games. Yes it is intuitive and new, but that doesn't mean it is instantly better. They need more games like Phantom hourglass and The World Ends With You because they used the touch screen to the fullest potential it had and it was GREAT! But seriously, how many more times does Peach need to be rescued by Mario or Link save Zelda. It got old a while ago.
