Forums - Gaming - Difference Between VGC Gamers vs The Rest of Humanity

I think it's probably because the site is more about statistics than fanboyism, there are not as many fanboys or haters here and is more composed of hardcore gamers in general (which most of the mods are.)

WoW is a good game, I just don't feel like it deserves my money atm because Lich King doesn't really offer anything new in terms of game play and the raids are gimp easy atm which pissed me off. Halo series uh.... I don't know, I'm sure a lot of the 360 owners who are not PC gamers would find it to be good, I just can't help but think it's crap because I'm not looking at the series at a fair view since PC FPS is better in general hence my opinion shouldn't count.

A lot of people on this site own multiple systems and are generally a little older, so it's a little more civil overall.

A lot of people on this site are elitists and act like everything popular sucks and everything niche rocks. Especially when it comes to japanese RPGs.

Another factor is that this site has very few Xbox fanboys and almost no PC fanboys (compared to PS3 and Wii fanboys, anyway) so Halo 3 and WoW cant get popular around here.

Myself I havent played Halo 3 as I dont own a 360. But I've played Halo 1 (on PC), it was alright. I've also played WoW (70 hunter BM) for some time but got tired of the game quickly. Still, I think it's a good game.

na I'm pretty sure most of the people on here like JRPGs lol, just the few who are hating it. as far as PC gaming goes, we don't brag or argue about it because people know it's the platform with the most power so why bother with it? Games are essentially about fun anyways, who cares what it's on, PC games just happen to be cheaper and run better with no type of extra fees to play online unless it's a mmo so the extra money you pay for the hardware pays off in the long run pretty much =P but because of that, I probably enjoy my Wii more than the 360 or PS3 since it's very different than just a power house with a game pad.

Nooooooo.... there is way more hate for Final Fantasy 7 on VGChartz.. ;)

LOL, really? I have seen a few people say that they didn't feel that FF7 deserves as much acclaim as it has gotten, but I have never seen anyone say that it sucked outright. I have seen people say that about Halo 3 and WoW.

Yeah. Stick around more. The hate for FF7 is greater than all hate for any other game, period. It just gets calls out every hater.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Halo3... I think it sucks... not much of an improvement from HALO1 IMO. World of WarCraft?? I don't see much hate for it here. I also think that there are about an equal number of both SONY and Nintendo fans here, and the MS fans seem to be a bit of a minority. However most of the staff loves Nintendo... if that counts for anything.

Lets get into some specifics about why Halo 3 sucks. Controls, graphics, combat, strategies, input device, weapons, spawns, maps, etc. I wanna hear people really tear it a new one besides generic, it sucks because it was not an improvement on Halo 1. One could elaborate on that as well. Do you not like the battle rifle spreads, sniper rifle recoil times, pistol gimping, melee mechanics, etc? Come on people.

What I said: it's nothing special, it's just another good shooter. However, we have enough good shooters already; we need something new, something spectacular, something innovative. Not to say Halo is generic... It's just nothing special.

You should also see how much I've played from my previous post (though the little amount is pretty much because the game is nothing special, not the other way around).

What FPS has something special?

Quake 3? It is more simple than Halo, but still decent.

UT04? Same amount of simplicity as Halo, very good.

Tribes? That is special, but I love Halo as much as Tribes.

Half Life 2? Multi-player sucks balls, very good single player.

Come one, let us discuss, in detail, the intricacies of an FPS.

Personally, I didn't like the short campaign or the lack of a final boss. I also disliked the overuse of the shotgun-melee tactic in MP. I remember the first time I saw Halo 3 I ended up watching my Halo fanatic friend shotgun-melee for like an hour. I prefered CoD4's MP and enjoyed gaining ranks and unlocking new weapons and abilities. I also dislike MC's slow movement speed and floaty jumping. Those are most of my gripes.

You're exactly right: only few games have something special. That's why most FPS games aren't too fun to play even if they are fun for a while. As for the games you mentioned... Quake 3 came at a good moment AND was good back then. Today it wouldn't be a big hit. Well, deathmatch games are getting pretty rare so it might have a chance. At least Quake Live is seeming pretty succesful so far, and I must admit that it's the first DM game I've ever actually liked (that game is largely based on skills, which I like, among other things). That said, it's still not very special. UT04? Don't know, never played. That's probably because it doesn't seem very interesting. Tribes? A game I'd like to try sometime but apparently not interested enough. I suppose it might be good, though. Still, it's an older game so it came out at the right moment. HL2? Liked the game the first time I played it and pretty much never after it. A bit better than Halo I guess.

In detail? My opinion is that most FPS games aren't special enough. Especially newer games tend to need something, for whatever reason. Maybe it's also that when they focus on so many things, they forget many basic things that make the game. Mostly I'd still go for them not being special enough. Unless you accept my opinion as one of the right opinions (well, every opinion is good, they might differ though), I guess I can't argue with you very much.

As for the arguments of other people, I can't say much. Sometimes it's just as simple as not liking a game for no apparent reason. I've experienced it a few times myself, too, even when the game seemed to have nothing wrong. That, of course, could simply be lack of skill in identifying the problems.
