Forums - Nintendo - Rumor - Matsuno and Monolithsoft working on RPG for Wii to take down FF?

Go ahead, if you want to alienate a fair-large portion of the existing Zelda fanbase. I know I'd be one of them. :(

yes like 360, nintendo needs to realize that only jrpgs will lead to world domination!

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Well they have pokemon. I guess they didn't really care beyond that since it brings in buckets of cash.

Well, if the rumour is true, it's great news for Nintendo, and it sounds like it'll be one hell of a game. But lets try and avoid the term "final fantasy killer" Killer's never work. Remember when Killzone was going to be a Halo Killer*
But here's a question. Considering that we have no idea what's happeneing with Disaster, let alone when it would come out, and if the main work for the project starts after that, then when will this speculative game ever see the light of day?

*This is in no way an insinuation towards Killzone 2. By all accounts these seem like two totally different games.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

yeah well it is a rather big hole in Nintendo's library. But it's been a hole I never really cared about. JRPGs are all boring, the only one I could stand was Grandia II (I only got it because it cost $5 for PC)

After playing games such as Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale, playing a JRPG just seems too much like watching a really corny movie. But if any company can change that, it's Nintendo.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

omgwtfbbq, I feel almost the same about western rpg's, the only ones I've ever enjoyed are Morrowind and Oblivion, everything else never seemed enjoyable to me. :p

Well, what I think about this, is: We'll wait and see. I trust Nintendo will make a great game, but if anything it's too far away to say anything. A 09 release (might even be 2010) is too far away for me to care the slightest about.

If it's true then I'll be one happy person... Not for the fall of Square-Enix but so that there's even more good RPGs on Wii.

I doubt Nintendo's goal would be "to make a Square killer". I think Iwata saw that one reason for the GameCube not succeeding so well was the fact that it lacked a decent library of RPGs. I'm an RPG fan and I missed the genre quite a bit on the Cube, despite a few great titles like Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia and Path of Radiance (if you class it as a strategical RPG). A lot of the RPGs released ended up becoming ports on other consoles. Phantasy Star Online Ep 1 & 2, Tales of Symphonia (made it to PS2 in Japan).
I believe a console that does well in Japan in the long run needs a good library of RPGs, both third party and exclusive. What Iwata has done is attempt to get the ball rolling in this direction. Clever move.

Everyone wants to destroy Final Fantasy, yet their RPGs are always pathetic on every level.

Are you not satisfied enough with just making a good game, you greedy bastards?

1. 3 of the last 5 Final Fantasy games have been completely awful, and 1 was utterly average.

2. Whose RPGs are pathetic on every level?

1. Opinion.

2. Mistwalker's

But I'm busy updating games (going to reach 30 today) so don't bother me anymore.

1. Yes, and so were your thoughts on Blue Dragon.  I'm not saying anything about that game either way, because I haven't played it, but I don't think it was ever hyped as a FF killer, except that the same producer worked on both of them.

2. Mistwalker != everybody?

And what kind of snotty childish ending to a post is that?
