Forums - Sony - GDC 09: BioWare Refuse to Deny Mass Effect 2 PS3

Mark my words...Mass Effect 2 will not be multi-console at launch, which effectively means it's exclusive...EA is hurting, so pissing in the wind to guaranteed money from M$ for some possible money from sales of PS3 is not going to happen. Mass Effect 2 will sell 3-4 million copies in it's first year on the 360 only...plus, I'm sure M$ is going to sweeten the pot with a nice publishing deal. EA is a publisher that's hurting..."bird in the hand..."

If the first Mass Effect didn't come close to that, why would the sequel?

And EA's current financial duress is exactly why I believe both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 will make there way to ps3 at some point.  They need money, and they're known for putting their games on every console under the sun as it is.

Edit: Wow.  Just realized LittleBigPlanet has already outsold the 360 version of Mass Effect LTD.

I want Mass Effect to go to PS3.
Maybe starting with a Mass Effect 1+2 pack, should get decent enough sales... around 1-2 million easy.

Mass Effect 2 will be awesom. I hope it gets double the sales of the first (which deserved so much more sales)

Based on what data? Bioshock sold how many, again?

Dont be silly. Bioshock only sold that because it was out for a year already + had next to no advertisements when the PS3 version came about. Everybody knows this. Use your brain.

Mass Effect 1+2 in one case for PS3 would sell, without a doubt. YOU give me reasons why it wouldnt.

*looks at your previous post*

You're not exactly one to be calling out others for making bold predictions that hardly reflect the numbers we already have.  :P

well if they do plan on a release for PS3, then they should release the first game at least a month before for no more than $25 so people can get caught up.

My prediction is based on the performance of Fable II, and Fallout 3 on the 360...The original Mass Effect sold 2.02 million according to VGC (unless you don't trust this data), and this was a title launched in 2007, with 377k in week one.  WRT to legs, that's pretty darn impressive, and the game has established itself as a top RPG franchise on the 360.  I don't believe that estimating 3-4 million is pie-in-the-sky or out of bounds to expect.  I DO believe Mass Effect will be an exclusive, timed or not, and I DO believe it's going to significantly top the last game...trend analysis supports that happening, based on 360 games to-date.

I used Bioshock, as an example of a title that WAS ballyhooed as being so much improved on the ps3 over the original game, and the sales performance didn’t materialize, not the argument is for Bioware to invest a lot of resources to port a game, and hope for sales…if that silly on my part, then I guess I’m just a clown.  Last time I checked, EA is bleeding money, and the key for any project is ROI, not some intrinsic ideal.

I am not going to get into a @$#$ measuring contest wrt to LBP vs. Mass Effect, since that statistical battle will lead to me getting ban ...I'll just be diplomatic and say great job on that game reaching the 2 million mark, and best of luck to it.
