Forums - Nintendo - Wii Memory Block Question(s)

Exactly how much space in terms of bytes is a memory block defined as in the Wii's OS?

I only ask because my 2 GB SD card came up at just under 15,500 memory blocks (its not a round number and I forgot it).

So taking it off those numbers (however vague they are) that puts 1 GB at just under 8000 memory blocks (7750) and 1 MB at around 7.75-8 memory blocks.

Now I may be imagining things but I seem to remember that Nintendo was supposed to have set a limit at how big WiiWare games should be, but I was just now moving some WiiWare games to my SD card and saw that Space Invaders Get Even is 307 blocks.

Now I know my math isn't very close (infact the impreciseness of it is quite annoying to me but I will battle onward)
but by my calculations that comes out to about 38MB for the game. Is it just me or is this a little big? I could be underestimating the size these games should be but the art style games were each between 50 and 150 blocks (6-19 MB or so)

Just wanted to ask if anyone knows anything more on this, thanks.

I believe there's a 40MB limit on WiiWare games so that'd fit right in there.

# blocks / 8 = size in megabyte of the game

Wiiware/VC limit = 320 blocks = 40 MB

DSiWare limit = 128 blocks = 16 MB

thank you, so my blind fumbling around with numbers came pretty close to the actual numbers. I'm hoping they lift the cap or at least increase it so we can see some larger and more involved WiiWare games in the future.

Personally I disagree. I know that developers and customers want more every time but even a strict limit has its advantages.

You must try to do your best with the little you have and in that landscape a giant publisher with millionaire revenue is  in the same level of a start up company compose by two guys ( like 2D Boys ).

I totally see what you're sayoing about the level terms but the flip side of that is - if you list my 10 favourite wii games then 3 of them are wii ware titles and I think this is the case because publishers dont get involved so much ande developers can be creative.

Increase the size and developers creativity can be expressed even more and we may get more fresh ideas that they may have thought of b ut couldn't simply pull it off with a 50Mb size limit.

I'm currently playing World of Goo and it's absolutley fantastic so I say let 2D boy haver more canvas.
