Forums - Nintendo - So, after all the announcements in the GDC....

The My Life as a King sequel is what I'm excited about.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Putting the Box back in Ninlen!

I am probably one of the few who was underwhelmed by the announcements. The Wii Storage Card solution is very excellent, and I commend Nintendo for finally falling through with this, but I personally am NOT happy that is has taken Square-Enix this long to realize that now is the time to put their FF SFC titles on the VC. If they wanted to show full support to the VC, they should have done it at the start instead of all those remakes and spin-offs; although I enjoyed Dragon Quest Swords and am looking forward to DQX and FFCC:CB, I really think Square-Enix would make my day if there are any confirmation of Terranigma and SD3 related announcements for the VC--THAT would be truly something for me to scream about.

I'm also glad that there's a new ZELDA coming out, but again, the fact that they didn't really announce much for the Wii is worrisome.

I really hate to come across as sounding so down, but I was left with more suspicion than reassurance by most of what was happening at GDC.

I was already happy, since I'm not delusional enough to believe that Nintendo isn't making Wii games.

So this screen was shown during Nintendo's GDC presentation

Anyone know what it's referring to?

I have a hunch it's a symbol of a trap that companies strive to avoid but do sometimes tread towards it.  I wonder if this is Nintendo's way of saying "Don't let financial stresses plague the quality of your games".  I could be wrong, though.

I'm still get surprised by people who think that this presentation is for gamers. GDC is used for and done by most in directing assistance towards other developers. If a game is presented it is only done to show what can be done differently or how it can appeal to make money. They didn't show Zelda or SD Card game play because they showed it to gamers. They showed SD card so that developers can feel more free in space and not limited to the 50mb WiiWare. Zelda to show intuitive touch based gameplay on the DS. Not as a sales pitch to gamers.

So from what they released I'm pretty satisfied. There more potential for developers to make more complex games for WiiWare. Also it will be nice to see more Arcade games. Maybe Shadows over Mysteria?

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Pressure from who, their shareholders?

If I recall correctly, it's about Nintendo's pressure to release first party software. People want them to make more games at a faster rate because they are raking in money. Their games would get made quicker, and due to that the quality of the games suffer. And because of that, there will be poor sales of the game.

I think it makes perfect sense. I'd rather have 1 Mario platformer to be released every 5 years that's amazing then 3 crappy ones that get released in the same time frame.

Close, but not quite. The graph doesn't just refer to Nintendo, it refers to all developers, and basically says that when you stop polishing your titles and start rushing them, you often enter the Death Spiral where your game doesn't do well financially (because it's crappy), so you have to rush your next game to keep the lights on, which creates a crappier product, which...

Nintendo's point to developers was simple: no matter how incredibly tempting it might be to rush a product to make some money NOW, don't do it: you'll stand or fall based on the quality of your offerings, so take the time to do it right, or you'll hamstring yourself in the long run.
