I'm personally not impressed... I want new Wii games, be it casual or hardcore...

In a way, I like the fact they acknowledged their core fans, but there was a little something off about the way they said the VC is for the core fans. They painted the VC as its own console and in a way what they said can be taken as them saying, "We've got all the great games our core fans loved on the VC, so they should be happy with that. If they like the old games that's fine but we're actually more interested in pleasing all these new fans we have now to announce one actual new core game for the Wii. And besides we released a lot of them early in the gen now its time for the third parties to pick up the slack (even though there is little evidence that they want to. Maybe their minds will change someday.)."

Hey, they'll probably announce new Zelda and Mario and Kid Icarus at E3 2009 though, right?

Heavens to Murgatoids.

he did announce a Zelda game even if it's for DS. When was a Zelda game ever announced at GDC?

Yep, in fact is was Phantom Hourglass back in the day. DS Zelda's are now a GDC exclusive.

Other than that, pretty awesome show. We've got SD card support (huzzah!), awesome VC and WiiWare support (yay!), and Miyamoto in a cowboy hat (shoop da woop!).

Too cool (for school).

This makes sense, really, since he's targeting developers. Bigger storage solutions for Wii Ware and VC games may mean a lift in the limitations of Wii Ware size. Give our dev team a GB and we'll drop our FPS on WiiWare for sure.

I don't think the size limit will ever get up to a Gigabyte. This solution still requires enough space in the internal memory for the game to be copied over before loading. With that limitation, I can't see the size limit going past 100 MB, if it gets raised at all.

^^ Unless they figure a way to make it direct download to SD card, like its own HD.

Good conference.

Weren't the Wii-related games announced later on?

It does download directly to the SD card.  The thing is that when you play it from the SD card, it temporarily transfers it to the Wii's memory, so you need a little bit of space.  The difference is that it removes it from the Wii's memory when the system's turned off.

Does anyone know how the content for the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games works?  Does it play right from the SD card or must it be transferred over?

Also, has anyone tried using their downloaded games on a system other than the one's you purchased them on?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

^^^ this will definitely be something to investigate further on. If a game could be played directly from an SD card, for the $4 it costs for a 2GB SD card, games could theoretically be distributed on the sd cards.
