We're only above metacritic on average because we're one of the few sites that provide Wii reviews that are in the context of the Wii and not compared to other platforms. It's ridiculous to score Wii games on graphics compared to PS360 games for example.

On HD games we're definitely below the metacritic average.

And reviews are opinions. Nothing to be done about that. Personally I'm proud of the way we review. I tend to think that at least the content of the reviews is very good. Obviously comparing scores from different reviewers can lead to weird things like the Revenant Wings that was mentioned, but overall I think it's pretty consistent.

A review without an opinion is as much possible as life without death.
I for myself don't care about the scores a reviewer gives but more why exactly he/she thinks it's a good/bad/mediocre game.
After reading several reviews from the same person you are able to tell what his/her preferences are. And if they match your own you know it's worth to read future reviews from this one even if you ignore overall scores like I do.

I would say touche if not for the fact that tekken has a deep story that evolves in each litteration :P

And brings brand new chars into each game and new game modes. For instance the third person action adventure found in tekken 5 or the online found in the psn version.

Each person in the game has a personality and a story .. it's not just their move list that evolves but their very essence.. (and age)

So tekken does really reinvent itself in every version. It's also the reason why some people like some tekken games over others, for instance, a lot of people prefere tekken 3 over tekken 4 because 4 opted for a more realistic approach, while most people in general prefere 5 because of the brand new way everything feels while you are playing.

FF4 was always the better game over Chrono Trigger. I loved both games as a teen but at the end of the day I have a much fonder attachment to FF4 and the upgrades they brought to the game only make it better. So I feel it definitely deserves at least a 9.0. For me, if I didn't already have a DS, FF4 would have forced me to buy one.

A: 89.5 - 100 - Great

B: 79.5 - 89.4 - Good

C: 69.5 - 79.4 - Average

D: 59.5 - 69.4 - Below Average

F: 0 - 59.4 - Poor

I dont agree, i really like VGC , why? because games are reviewed by gamers on this website not by bunch of "Journalists" that sometimes want to bash a game for no reason, and usually have nothing to do with profesional journalism. They also usually reviewed by people that were interested in this game in a first place not by someone that does not want to do it, so they not do it properly.

What i also like about those reviews is a fact that they not giving out 9+ scores to the heavily hyped games like many websites do, to keep the hype alive.

I dont tend to look at reviews when buying my games but its a nice feature on the website.

Wait. So VGC reviews Wii games compared only to other Wii games? So, in addition to obviously the graphics, you might actually make, say, Mario Kart Wiis online a plus because your not comparing it to the superior online of the HD consoles? I understand the decision, but for me when I choose a game its either PC, 360, or Wii. I might have enough cash for 1 game, and need to choose the best one. Reviews are used to give me a general idea of how good a game is, but when comparing PC/Wii games for example, apparently I should knock down the Wii game a few notches in my head?

actually I just gave the general education system's scale. I'm to lazy to go to the staff site and get the review. Its more spread out for each.
