I prefer an amazing and long single player game, but I do need my smash bros.

...because generalisations are always right?

...No, because common usage of a word or phrase is what determines its definition. Multiplayer is a component of replayability in the larger discourse, so that is a component of it. You can't arbitrarily change the meaning of a word, or else we aren't speaking the same language.

Wait,
Resident evil 4 in "Short games with long replay value" ???

I'd say length, as I don't find any sense of accomplishment with trophies (except in Fifa), so going back for them isn't a huge incentive or fun for me.

But if we talk replayability as in with multiplayer, that's a tough one, as I do get me some Modern Warfare still from time to time.

Yeah, it's definitely not a short game. There is replay value, but it got old to me pretty fast. I guess it's all pretty subjective. It's definitely not a short game though, so I found it strange to see that in his list as well. :P

long gameplay with good amount of replay value - Super Smash Bros Brawl, Ridge Racer games, DJ Max series. well all depends on content. i love playing brawl so i can get some coins and look for throphies and stuff i don't have yet and at the same time after completing resistance retribution i just stopped playing it cause i don't care about unlockables in this game(i don't care about bunch of guns or notebook entries).

Pseudo infinite games with huge replay value.

Most of the best games ever made were short but had excellent replay value. I suspect this is because more effort went into making the game not just fun, but fun to play again.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Short games with long replay value (i.e. Wii sports, Resident evil 4, House of the dead overkill)

3 of the worst possible examples of replay value?

why? <.<

Wii Sports is just the same thing over and over, if that has high replay vaue evrry game in existance does.  The other 2 when you replay the game you play the same levels with the same cutscenes and such over and over again.  Weapon upgrades are hardly replay value which is all I can imagine you mean.

I see real replay value as new modes/characters to unlock that will allow to do something different, or alternative paths to take, new cutscenes/story to find.  etc etc.

Wii sports are short sessions but there's always a reason to play them over and over again. Because you want to beak your ecord, play with friends (the most common) or because they are just plain fun.

House of the dead is a short game but you can always go back and perfect your score or skills. Like the arcade games.

Resident evil 4, once you finish it and know the game, you can finish it in 3 hours more or less. But you can alwayus go back to try a new route, a new weapon(s), to find the treasures, to use the costumes, etc.

That's replay value too of course but not exclusively. Normally short games are designed to pick and play many times but not all of them do them right.

Multiplayer isn't really replay value, since it is different every time playing against actual people.

 .

But that's precisely one definition for replay value!

Another example is Mario Kart, it takes you time to unlock stuff but it doesn't ends there. The online multiplayer adds more replay and more reasons to come back as well as the tournaments and time modes.

Honestly, Replay value is a very broad term and can mean many things. Many games takes hours to complete but doesn't have unlockables, multiplayer, online, different modes, etc.

lol! ok maybe is not a very good example XD

RE4 is long the first time you play it. Then once you know the game it can be very short (I beat it the 2d time in 3 hours) but you can play many times for many reasons (weapons, modes, suits, etc.)
