Forums - General - I'm going on a diet!

My diet has gone to pot lately as I lack the energy to cook anymore with uniwork consuming more hours than the day allows. So it is literally pastry from the bakers in the morning, fruit throughout the day and a ready made curry or chinese at night. I know how diet can effect you due to this sudden change, I feel a bit more bloated and unhealthy than I usually do.

But it is important to get a good balance, If you are keen on going to the gym eat lots of carbs to keep your energy up, but it could turn into fat. last year I went through a bout of wanting to swim all the time and I had a high carb diet that worked for me. Also, I found that eating food rich in protein an hour or so before working out is good after my friend suggested it once.

Oh and lots of fruit and veg... also have 4 or 5 smaller meals a day if you are up for that

@highwaystar
Yeah, that's pretty much what it is for me. School and work takes up a great portion of my day, and my girlfriend is always demanding attention.... It's annoying

@moongoddess
thats great advice. But what kind of fruits and veggies and whole grains. People always say "whole grains" and then I actually think about the grains. wtf do I do with grains moon, wtf do I do with grains....
:P seriously I want to make all my food for the week and then freeze or fridge it.
I need good traveling foods.

EDIT: @highwaystar

yeah that's what I wanna do, but I don't understand how...

@wfz

I used to be like that. Then I started working and it stopped me from playing basketball everyday.

^Meh, I think my GF doesn't seem to care what shape I'm in... I think maybe it is because she is a medicine student, so I can get away with letting myself go a bit from time to time and she doesn't really notice.

Also, cashew nuts and brazil nuts are good, mmmm nuts

-edit-

also, she's vegan so I cook vegan when I'm with her and I think she may just think I cook normally

Since it was implied you were trying to lose some weight, avoid the nuts. That means go ahead and eat some, but don't start chowing on those too much. Leafy green veggies are the best for you, but so is getting in some variety. Eat anything that you like that happens to be a veggie. Try not to bathe them in grease and salt to make them taste better. Eat fruits instead of sweets. replace white bread with whole grain bread replace white rice with brown or replace the rice with something else entirely like quinoa (its the hottest health food trend right now :P) and if you have any questions about the nutrition info on foods that don't have labels, play around with this site: http://www.nutritiondata.com/

I wouldn't worry about diet as much as maybe exercising more if your only goal is to lose weight.

If your goal is to get healthier then just eat more fruit/vegetables and no (or very little) candy/chocolate.

Drink lots of milk and brush your teeth before going to bed.

I already exercise 3 times a week for about 2 hours. This is running and resistance training.
I also walk a lot and my bag often weighs upwards of 50 pounds. I'm quite fit, but I realize that I won't lose weight if I'm eating burritos and whatever garbage I can find nearby.

This might make you mad, but I have always had the opposite problem. I have always been really thin. I have found that eating even when I am full, and eating lots and then immediately going to bed helped me to gain weight. Since then I have been able to build up muscle :D

For you, I would recommend that you ear slowly. Drink lots of water with meals. The second you feel full, stop eating. If you feel hungry between meals, ignore it. May be eat some celery and have a glass of water or something if its uncomfortable. I ride a bike outside for 30-45 minutes a day. I recommend you do the same. Also, may be do 2 sets of 5 push ups a day, and work your way up to 3 sets of 15 push ups. Do something similar with proper curl ups. Stretch after excersing or you will eventually look like an ape if you get buff but have no flexibility. Good luck!

erm how heavy are you kid
