Sony cuts costs of PS3 development

Reports denote that Sony has lowered the price of PS3 development kits and introduced new tools at GDC this week. The new dev kit models are available for developers of PS3 titles across the globe and cost approximately $2000. According to Developmag, the new versions of the reference tool "allow advanced game programming and more efficient computer graphics rendering."

New dev kit models are available for developers of PS3 titles around the world - Reference Tool models DECR-1400A for North America costs $2,000 and the Europe/PAL territories version is €1,700. DECR-1400J for Japan meanwhile costs ¥200,000.

The new versions of the Reference Tool "allow advanced game programming and more efficient computer graphics rendering", Sony said.

Sorry, we’re late with this. Sony’s confirmed it’s to drop the price of PS3 dev kits by over 80 percent to $2,000, down from $10,240.
