Puzzle Quest is comming to XBLA, should be within a month or so, I thuoght they said September

First time ever, I agree with Leo-j.... I think Folklore should be on that list... However NO to the rest :-p
either that or remove "Eye of Judgement" and "Puzzle Quest" those two games are not RPG's in my opinion. I would say your "sub-genre" is VERY MUCH their primary.

Also, why not Blue Dragon and Two Worlds, id consider August 24th and 28th a fall title..

Great post though

I agree about Puzzle Quest. It should be on the 360 list as an XBLA title.

Folklore isn't listed as an RPG anywhere. Examples:

Wikipedia: Action Adventure http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folklore_%28video_game%29

Gamespot: Fantasy Action Adventure http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/monstercarnival/index.html?tag=result;title;0

1UP: Action http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150533

Eye of Judgement is iffy I agree. Fall officially starts on September 23rd. August titles are Summer.

There can be action adventure RPGs. Folklore has RPG elements written all over it. The fact you explore collect stuff, and do the basic follow character's life through the adventure.

Meh. I think the Wii's line up appeals to me the most. I've been a diehard fan of Harvest Moon since the 64. I also love the Fire Emblem series. I've been waiting awhile for both of these titles. None of the other games interest me at all.

Let's see...
What does "the best line-up" means?

Before going any further, some important things gathered from my long years as a RPG player:
Action RPG never really were RPG, so I won't count them as RPG.
MMORPG don't play like regular RPG either, and like above, they have very different incentive to play. You can love RPG and dislike most MMORPG.
Zelda is not a RPG, Folklore is not either, 1 minute of video or play is enough to realize that fast.

So, if the best line-up means the console with most titles in the genre, then XBox 360 wins.
If the best line-up means the console with the best WRPG, the XBox 360 wins.
If the best line-up means the console with the best JRPG, the Wii wins (hands down).
If the best line-up means the console which has the RPG you prefer, for me, the Wii wins hands down again, as I bought it mostly for Fire Emblem, alone! And it's not even out yet in Europe, I will have to wait more than one year after launch to get it. And it better have original japanese voices or I say bye bye to NoE right away, and go buy a japanese Wii.
For me, the next Fire Emblem will be put above any other game I have, as soon as I get it.
Then the ToS sequel will follow.

BTW, I explained the hype generated around XBox 360 JRPG as a heavy astroturfing campaign, which is usual MS tactics. Does someone have another explanation?
Because I just can't explain the hype that Blue Dragon generated. From seeing a few minutes of it in action, a self-respecting RPG fan will realize quickly that it's bland basic rehashed JRPG fare. Not bad, but barely average. So how come it generated so much hype?
I can understand Trusty Bell's hype, as it's not right away apparent that it's in the same league (even though I would enjoy this game without any problem), as you need to play some hours of it to see it's just a mess of a story (which is why Japan gamers said it was shamelessly overrated and didn't buy a lot of it).

Naz did you read the Wikipedia entry on Folklore or just post a link.

"Folklore, or FolksSoul in Japan (formerly Monster Kingdom: Unknown Realms, Unknown Realms) is a video game exclusively for the PlayStation 3 announced at E3 2006 which is told to be "The next generation of dark fantasy." The game is a real time action adventure game with RPG elements, in the same vein as Genji and Devil May Cry. The game stars a young blonde girl named Ellen, and a journalist named Keats. Together they must fight the monsters known as the "Folk" and weaken and capture their souls."

Taken from Wikipedia page on Folklore.

Mitsuhide, did you read the article that you just quoted?  Because going from your definition of it containing RPG elements, then are you honestly saying Genji and DMC are classified as RPGs???  I would find it very hard for anyone to argue those points.  So if those aren't RPGs, then neither will Folklore.

Again, these are american release dates so stop trying to add games that are not released in the Fall in the US.  Also I'm guessing they're not including handheld rpg's on here, in which case I would imagine the DS overshadowing everything.

For most games you can easily try and classify them as a RPG puzzle action adventure platform game because there's a deep story with customizable guns and armor that has them solving environmental puzzles by jumping from building ledge to building ledge while dual wielding UV ray shooting guns to kill enemy vampires in real time but most games usually just have one central genre with a few different sub genres to appeal to as many people as possible.

I don't know a lot about Folklore, but take Puzzle Quest as an example. Puzzle Quest does have RPG elements and that is one of its big gimmicks, but it is first and foremost a Puzzle Game. It is not a Puzzle RPG game, it's just a puzzle game (main genre) with RPG elements (sub genre).

Whatever it is, the demo rules. More of the demos need to be like that one.
Keats; Otacon + Irish - Wussy = Badass
Ellen = Hot

Hopefully, Lost Odyssey gets released for the 360, too. Awesome RPG line-up for Microsoft this year. I believe Folklore should be listed for the PS3, yes?

I believe folklore was added to adventure catagory, so add or and remove O.o

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

First off, with genuine jrpgs 360 wins hands down, i dont know how you got it in your mind wii won, but i wont go into that. The other two i agree, because wrpg yes 360 no doubt, and the second one is your opinion and i cant argue that.

Now on to everything else, Blue dragon  is not a bad game it is a very classic jrpg which alot of people have liked (what 8 or so reviews in 9+?) and a few really low scores (5 or so below 6?) which has brough down the average, in all the game seems to be a 7-8.5 game which is a good game to a great game.

Its generated hype because not many have been seen on 360, and its quite a fun game, i had fun with the demo. While it was made very fast to boost the 360 its still not a bad game and is ABOVE average. Your opinion is excepted, but you have barely played the game, let alone played the entire game and thats what makes jrpgs so fun. I have not played fire emblem, so guess what i wont criticize it for the gameplay ive seen, and to me seems to much like the original, but hey i dont know havent played it. Again, have you played eternal sonota? im guessing no because its not out, so again stop judging it. And i have no clue why you say alot havent 100k on a 400k console is huge sales, so i dont know wtf your talking about.

In jrpg sorry but 360 wins, they are true and genuine rpgs, i wouldnt say hands down because its a matter of opinion, but to say wii wins hands down is just.... i dont know whats the right word.

Just blue dragon and eternal sonota win in True jrpgs, add in Lost Odyssey and its almost a true hands down

In my opinion, Lost odyssey=greater then all, but hey its my opinion, and we wont know till we play LO and the rest

Again this does come to matters of opinions but dont bring things down which you HAVE NOT PLAYED

That's no different from the Legend of Zelda.

Of course to me I don't even consider Fire Emblem an RPG. I consider it a strategy game.  To me RPGS need to be menu based for me to consider them RPGs... and not strategy games like Fire Emblem.

It's not so much the 360's lineup, but just that it gets Mass Effect.

I'll enjoy Folklore, no matter what genre you put it in (I'd say action from the demo, but if Pokemon is considered an RPG so is this game...you collect stuff then battle, it's just direct and real-time instead), but Mass Effect is clearly the RPG of 2007 along with Oblivion, which is a re-release with added content (which I'm waiting to come out so I can "finish" my game).

Of course, I'm biased being a huge Bioware fan (Baldur's Gate).  I am saddened by their deal with Microsoft.
