Forums - Sales - UK: Chinatown Wars sales only half of VCS PSP sales, RE5 still number one

Just let word of mouth do its magic. In the meantime, wait and see.

Yea, let's hope that. It is the best game on ds. :)

5th place is fine for Chinatown Wars. I wasn't sure it would open so well. I still expect to to reach 1 million in sales, which will mean a ton of profit for TT.

Again guys, who would it sell to initially? Go to the games profile, look up DS games by sales and look for the highest selling "M" game. GTA CW isn't selling to an existing userbase. It's the game that will bring that userbase in to the fold, meaning we'll probably see a successful future for other more "adult" DS games as well.

Christmas 09, top 15. Stand by it.

So are you saying that ds is for kids or what? That is confusing.

It doesn't neccessarily have to mean kids. Demopgrahic simply applies to the type of people that play the games. 30 year old guy playing rpgs on the DS. He wouldn't be interested in GTA.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

Why not? I play jrpg:s on DS and I think gta:cw is the best game on that platform..

You'd think people would learn after the numerous "flop" claims of games that went on to receive either sequels or platinum selling status.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

It was just an example. Take it easy..

Ok, so far the highest selling DS game I found that could be in any way relatable to GTA CW was Call of duty Modern Warfare.

It's at postition 142 with .51M sales (not including Europe). Clearly, the DS userbase doesn't have much of a "human violence" demographic... YET. It takes games to bring gamers. and GTA Chinatown Wars is one of the biggest games you can get. This is going to be the definition of a system seller.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Im sick of traitorous MFr's who cut down Nintendo at every chance they get. Have some respect for the company that started everything.

If your not English you don't know anything about advertising and marketing or the PR that preceded the release of GTA CTW in the UK. After its release it got better reviews that KZ2, HW, SF4, RE5 and MW, see what happens next week.
Judging by the first day its low, of course unlike the PSP which has NO CHOICE of games, the DS has many more, but audiences and buzz will take time because no one expected it to be as great as it is.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
