Forums - Sony - New Sony fee a HUGE loss for PS3 owners --- O RLY?!!

If this article is true, how could it be anything other than bad for the PS3 consumer? There is a potential for this to cost major money to devs that have a hit demo. It probably won't effect the bigger studios, however the smaller ones are really going to feel the pain.

I wonder if they will charge the devs for bandwidth on updates? This could make game studios not want to make updates on games even.

Yeah.. cus XBL is a freebe for developers? They can just log on and post their content for free. Must be nice.

i agree that this is really stupid for sony to do but i dont think it will kill Sony's DLC

Long Live SHIO!

I failed to see the other postings of this article so I'll simply reply to this one. Like darth I don't really see what the big deal is.

I could see a reduction in free DLC because of this fee, but not really demos. If you think about it, demos are part of merketing. If one in 50 downloads of a 1GB demo turns a no-sale into a sale, then it's worth it.

For other products that aren't free, even if the fee is "dumped" on the consumer by adding to the standard charge(say compared to the same product on Live), it'd take ~300 GB per year to be more costly than Live.

So I fail to see how it's really any loss for PS3 owners, and even how it's much of a burden for publishers.

""But a bandwidth fee is exactly the wrong way to go about it, and if you own a Playstation 3, you should be mad as hell, because with this ill-conceived move by Sony has all but guaranteed that you'll be sorry you don't own an Xbox 360.""

Why would i be mad if im not the one paying this?, and why would i be sorry for not owning an xbox 360 for that reason ?

does this guy work for microsoft or what?

Actually this is a good idea, but seems poorly moved in. Free content should be free content. The best way to keep people biting is with small bites. If people can't down load free content because they need to pay $0.16 then your out of luck. These hanger ons won't become pay DLC later because they aren't there to keep your sales teeth in.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Doesn't seem to bad at all. 16 cents for 1GB... if the download is 128mb then that's 2 cents per download.... not much.... How any things sell 1M anyway??? Most of that stuff are from big publishers that can afford this. Perhaps it would be nice if SONY were to drop the price to 10 or 8 cents though. Or perhaps proportional billing??

1st 1GB = 8 cents
next 512 = 10 cents
Remaining = 12 cents

???
