how about any non-nintendo game?
No more heroes didn't sell
MadWorld I don't expect to sell
I don't expect Conduit to sell either
Call of duty world at war didn't sell well either compared to HD console versions

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

Are you serious?

I'll bet they are back at making mini games...: Deadly Creatures developer 'back to minigames' if game doesn't sellIt's tough being a developer at Rainbows Studio right now, and not just because your rivals are insinuating things about your game. Jordan Itkowitz, lead designer on the allegedly not-that-original Deadly Creatures, is desperate for his game to sell well. If it flops, as many third-party "core" games have to date, it could mean he goes "back to minigames." Says Itkowitz to MTV's Multiplayer blog: "I hope people vote with their dollars in February so we can make some more." --------------------------------------- :(

Ouch, that's harsh. I read that before but I had forgotten it.
A game I'm developing with some friends:
www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm
It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
I don't think that the developer has the luxury of time when it comes to their game selling. remember that over the course of that year they have to run the company ie pay the developers start new projects etc.
I don't know if the game will reach 500k. But i know for sure that developer will think twice before making another wii game because of this.

Because you know or because you assume.

You ignored the question I asked about Zelda. But ok, Tenchu, I don't know how well it will sell. It's a recent release with 70,000 units so far, and the best selling Tenchu game of all according to vgchartz only sold 320,000 copies. Maybe it will have legs, maybe it won't. And which Tomb Raider are you talking about, this? http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/laracrofttombraideranniversary Interesting benchmarks you use for expecting high sales, really. |
Tomb Raider is a big name, washed out as it might have gotten, that was the point. And metacritic=73 is now a game that does not deserve sales? I think it means a decent to good game, if not for everybody.
It's more than Deadly Creatures and Endless Ocean that most people on this forum found good games, only two less than Umbrella Chronicles.
@RolStoppable
Yes, misread it sorry. The PS2 version might have killed it indeed, as the target for TR:Anniversary on the Wii is probably mostly made of (ex) PS2 owners.
Because he read sometime ago that one developer said so and takes it for granted. Even if it does not need 500k to make profit on a game, i have this wierd hunch that they put a bit of money into deadly creatures (say around 5-6 million$) and if they get those 20$ off each sold copy they need to sell overall 250-300k to get that money back.
And after a month the game sold 40 thousand units where the game is basically off the charts radar already.

| WereKitten said: How is Okami more niche than Zelda? And as for advertising, how much advertising did Uncharted get when compared to, say, Metroid Prime 3? If you make enough rules as you go along to cut out counterexamples, you can prove basically any thesis. It all depends on what you mean with big game, with enough sales etc. How many games of great quality, strongly advertised, not of a niche genre did ever not sell on any console? |
Since Okami did not sell well on the PS2 either, and that console had a much larger base and certainly did have the ability to sell quality titles, you can't blame the console - PS2 or Wii - for its poor sales.
I don't think it will.
I have seen the game in stores, but I had no idea that it was an actual quality title. The clunky box art just made me think that it was another "Cabella's" hunting game or cash-in mini game.
If it is a good game, more advertising to raise awareness would surely increase it's sales.
We'll miss you George.
