Forums - Sony - Sony need another huge franchise, what will it be?

They need to get CoD: MW2 as an exclusive. This would help PS3 decimate 360 sales in the holiday season.
Another good exclusive would be getting EA Sports + the multiple games they have. FIFA on 1 console would sell like crazy.

New IPs they could use would be a new racing game, while Gran Turismo aint on the market Sony could get some of the racer sales with a 2nd racer. Kinda like 360 has Forza + PGR.

Cod MV2 would be great catch for $ony or M$ as an exclusive, but what are the chances that inifinty ward would offer that.   This game will easily do 1mil first week PS3 and 2mil 360 I don't now if either $ony or M$ want to fork over that much money to get this as a timed exclusive although it would be a very smart move..

I say Legend of Dragoon, or a new JRPG series, SONY neeed's a game that appeals to Japan which they dont have at the moment.

Actually, I think they would be better off trying to make more games that would become very popular in the west, Japan just isn't what it used to be, and has dropped in importance.

They have tons of games that appeal to the west, but no matter how small japan is they need them, i mean come on its japan thats has PS3 lagging every week, MS alreadly taken NA, SONY cant give up japan. If they can keep Japan sales like now or more that would be great.

I think Sony are better off letting the japanese developers make those games. Sony would do better in getting a game with the same popularity as say Gears of War in the west, because the market is just so much bigger.

You mean all the Japanese developers that flocking to the 360?, apparently Japan doesn't think PS3 can sell anything.

Gears of war 3 exclusive,..Gears is epi ip ,...

''Halo reach''.. sell 7.m first week ,Believe¡¡¡¡¡¡

I think SE are the only ones who are trying to live off the 360 alone, but I think SEGA are quite happy with their game sales, just like Demon's Souls and White Knight Chronicles are doing fine on the PS3.

I dont think marketing White Knight Chronicles (or any other jRPG for that matter) is a good idea. It simply wont work and will be a waste of (limited) resources. Despite being the most discussed type of games here at vgchartz, console jRPGs have lost its appeal in the West. There wont be another Final Fantasy no matter what marketing campaign Sony is willing to launch.

That being said I see two candidates to become really big franchises: Killzone (Sony must create its own Halo and this one seems like it has potential) and God of War (brutal, cruel, bloody action - americans already eat it up, it's easy to market and can become bigger than it is now)

Everything else I dont think has a good chance of becoming big.

Japan dropped in importance when it comes to consoles. The real money in Japan is where the handhelds are. I think Sony is really going to base their next PSP off what the Japanese gamers want and give us in the west that product. Probably something that loads faster and you don't have to buy a memory stick for. Hopefully. God I wish they didn't go with the UMD.

I think that jRPGs can sell in the West, LO sold well due to word of mouth, and with good advertising and good reviews it could certainly do well, and is a worthy long term investment in my view as they intend it to become a trilogy

Killzone is certainly a contender and there is certainly a chance, but I can just feel it getting old a lot quicker than an Uncharted franchise, and I have more confidence in Naughty Dog producing great games every time. Guerilla aren't experienced enough yet.

As for God of War, I think III is the end, Jaffe said that it will explain why there are no more Greek myths, or something cliched like that, but I think Kratos' tale will be done

Sony has enough games, they just need to never release a $600 console again.

They don't need a new one too much. they need to make PS3 editions of games.

Driver 5
Getaway 3
Team ICO game
Parappa the Rapper
