I'm not talking about sales... I'm talking about the hardcore game collection for adults.

The PS2 was the leader in hardcore game collection.
The Xbox 360 is the leader in hardcore game collection. Especially in RPGs (16 titles so far).

Would it satisfy you if he said he sold his ps3 for a 360 then that would put a smile on your face

Hey Listen!

I don't think any of the really good games like Mass Effect 2 will be 360 exclusive. Really, in the end, almost nothing is. I mean even supposed for sure only on Xbox 360 games like Ninja Gaiden 2 (Hello 2 Sigma) and Bioshock have made the trip over, I doubt Mass Effect 2 won't now that EA is in the drivers seat. Notice Dragon Age is coming to the PS3 (first bioware game on a sony console) so will other Bioware games be far behind? I think not.

Also, worst case, for 450 dollars you can buy a computer that is MORE then capable of playing whatever you want to play on the PC these days.

8800GTX card, under 100 dollars if you shop around
2.8 ghz core 2 duo around 100 dollars
Decent core 2 duo micro motherboard 50 dollars
Case 40 dollars
450 watt power supply 30 bucks
4GBs 1066 RAM 50 bucks
500GB Hard Drive 60 bucks

Bingo, a computer that can run whatever newer games on decent settings for 450 dollars. The price only goes down if you have any of the needed components already (Some RAM, a case, a decent processor, a decent vid card ect). Buying a computer that outperforms the 360 actually costs less then a 360 elite these days (plus the computer can do, you know, computer things).

Other then Mass Effect most of the 360 RPGs have been A) pretty childish and/or B) not very good.  I don't know where this leader in RPGs thing comes from.  The best JRPGs have all been on Playstation systems this gen (Persona 3, Persona 4, Disgaea, Valk Chronicles, Eternal Sonata).  The only above 80 JRPG on the 360 is Tales at 81, and I would bet just about anything that will be making the trip to the PS3 sooner or late just like Eternal Sonata.  Squares switch to the 360 would matter more if their games were worth a damn these days, they haven't been relevant in at least half a decade.

As far as the hardcore games, the PS3 has pretty much every good 360 game other then the two gears of war games and Halo.  To make up for the few losses there are a tons of gains on the PS3 side like MGS4, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2 and Uncharted which more then make up for the handful of losses.  Plus, like Gears of War 1, even that tiny fraction of games that don't go 360 to PS3 make the trip to the PC where the games are 10 bucks less with much better graphics and free online.

The game selection thing may have been true in 2006, but it most certainly is not true today.  The PS3 without a doubt now has the strongest library with the best in RPGs (Valk Chronicles), FPS games (killzone 2), 3rd person action (MGS4), platforming (Little Big Planet), Adventure (Uncharted) and sports (MLB 09 the Show) all truly exclusive to the PS3, no PC ports even.

If you got 450 that's a super good deal. PS3 is where the games are at. If you didn't like Halo 3 then you're down to about 2 exclusives that arent on PS3.

This is what you should do:

Take $250 and buy the Wii. It's different enough from the HD twins to be worth it.

Save the other $200. If worse comes to worse you can buy a new 360 next year when Mass Effect 2 comes out. By that time either A) The arcade will be $150 or B) Mass Effect 2 will be announced for PS3. Add another $50 to your wallet for not paying XBL fees and basicly you just got yourself a free Wii.

Sorry to derail the thread here,  but I have a question for you.  Have you ever played any of the RPG's on the 360?   In my opinion your dead wrong on the RPG's.  The 360 really does shine over the PS3 there.

tupid Sony Fanboys...

Owning multiple consoles is the way to go.
And you don't want to miss the one with the most hardcore collection, the Xbox 360.

Owning a PS3 is not enough.
Owning a 360 is not enough.

Unless you're out of money...

I'd say... Bad move.

The Xbox 360 is the console to own this gen (just like the PS2 last gen).

Aren't those two statements conflicting one another? I mean with the PS2 last generation, most felt it only necessary to own one console, both casual and core players.

@OP: I don't buy into those who say you'll always regret selling a console. Especially in your case, still having immediate access to a 360 still. If the only reason you were concerned about was not being able to play Mass Effect 2, you could always loan a 360 from a friend for a short while.

Ultimately, it's you alone who will know if you made the right decision but I would think you made the right move if you were only holding on to the console for one game that you cared about.

EDIT: I know you mention WRPG's but if you like JRPG's it'd probably have been wise to keep both as they seem to be quite scattered these years.

Sorry to derail the thread here,  but I have a question for you.  Have you ever played any of the RPG's on the 360?   In my opinion your dead wrong on the RPG's.  The 360 really does shine over the PS3 there.

I've played Infinate Undiscovery just last week (HATED it, I returned it the 2nd day).  It had poor graphics, a horrid main character in Crapello, awful gameplay and a dated story.  I stopped playing not long after the jail escape in disgust.

I played Star Ocean the week before that.  I was kind of indifferent, though I never loved the past star ocean games either.  It had somewhat decent graphics, almost no special move choices (by the 30s each character only had 2-4 moves to choose from, rediculous), a REALLY REALLY annoying character, possibly the worst ever, in Lymile (I love you Edgie and Ray Ray kay?) and endless hyper easy enemy encounters leading up to take forever uneventful boss fights.  I made it through the first disk before I got bored and moved on to other things, kind of par for the star ocean course.

I tried Lost Odyssey, it was stilted, poorly designed and just boring.  The characters had horrid animation, the graphics were nothing to write home about, the split between immortals and humans was lame (along with the way of acquiring skills from paired humans), the boss fights were cheap and encouraged grinding...There was ONE bright spot, the text stories you found from time to time, they were well written and engaging unlike the ponderous LO dialogue.  I wish I hadn't lost 10 hours of my time trying that game.

Blue Dragon was really really trite and boring.  It didn't help that it looked like it was designed for 8 year olds with the dragon ball Z graphics.  In addition the battles were simplistic and boring even by 1997 standards (when other JRPGs like Legend of the Dragoon and later Shadow Hearts were expanding to more involved battles).  The characters were poorly designed and not really likable and the story was again, pretty awful.  The 6s and 7 it got were overly generous

Eternal Sonata wasn't too bad, a solid 8 or so, it had good graphics, a pretty decent semi real time combat system and an interesting concept.  The story went off the rails a bit near the end, but overall it was a good game with a great soundtrack.  It is also on the PS3, so can't be counted as a feather in the 360's cap anymore.

Enchanted Arms was also ported, though it doesn't matter, because it was awful.

I haven't tried Last Remnant to be Honest, I've heard such bad things that I really didn't want to waste even the 5 dollars on the rental.

The only game that was good on the 360 was Tales of Vesperia; the combat was fun, the story was not great but passable and the graphics were good enough.  It was great for a 360 RPG but probably would have been lost in the pack on the PS2 (like the Tales series often was).

though even that game was nowhere near as good as Valk Chronicles, so on one of the few decent exclusives it still goes advantage PS3 in comparison.  IMO Valk Chronicles is the only JRPG of this gen that could really stand on its own compared with the many awesome PS2 JRPGs.  It had great art direction, great story, engaging characters and setting...everything.

I may have missed one or two JRPGs here and there (other then last Remnant) but I'm pretty sure I've played all the "must play 360 JRPGS" and they've been found wanting.  The three best JRPGs of the last 3 years are without a doubt Persona 3, Persona 4 and Valk Chronicles.  If I was going to add a 4th I'd toss in Disgaea 3 before I'd go over to Tales.

I don't know why anyone doubts that one can play these 360 RPGs and not like them, none of the review community did, so why is there this expectation that all players should?  I've played at least 500 RPGs over the last 22 years and none of the 360 RPGs are even in the top 100 (either in my personal estimation or in reviews given by review outlets).  In quantity, yes, the 360 is way out ahead, but does that really matter if the PS2 era quality isn't there?  I'd trade all the 360 RPGs for one Dark Cloud 2 or Shadow Hearts Covenant or hell, even a Kingdom Hearts or Front Mission.

Feel free to check my gamercard, Impulsivity, I have all the games on my played list except for Star Ocean which was lost when I switched consoles last week and had to recover my gamercard (which apparently isn't updated daily when it comes to recovery).  I can answer more questions about the gameplay/plot if you don't believe me on that one.

$450 is a good price. It sounds like you are happy and that's what counts.

Sorry to see you go, but enjoy your PS3.

Mass Effect 2 will probs end up on PS3 somewhere down the line too, so OP should be fine.
