Forums - Nintendo - BRAWL+: The definitive version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl

EDIT: @Solid

That's kinda difficult since I don't have a copy of Wii Twilight Princess - which homebrew channel apparently still requires - nor do I know anyone who has. Plus, it still sells for around 60 euros over here in Finland, even when used, and there aren't any reliable stores around who'd rent games. So I'm kinda stuck.

Besides, wouldn't giving Meta Knight any sort of viable hitstun turn him from an already really powerful character into a monstrosity that God Rugal would shit his pants over? :p

They nerfed MetaKnight and buffed some characters, so its better for everyone.

One thing to keep in mind was that L-Canceling wasn't exactly meant to be in Super Smash Bros to begin with. This was actually a glitch that just happened to work really well with the game. They took it out because it wasn't a part of the design that they wanted to leave there in the first place.

As for the speed... Brawl was as fast as Melee at one point in time but they slowed it down once Sonic was added to the Roster. They had to find someway to make him the fastest character in the game without actually getting you killed. At least that's what I read in developer interviews.

I wouldn't mind a more "definitive" version, but we're not exactly the ones who can define what is "definitive". We did not make that the game. What if our definition of "definitive" is not at all close to what Nintendo wanted the "definitive" Smash to be?

Being a gamer is about getting your hands on any damn game you can find and playing the hell out of it!  It means experiencing the good, the bad and the ugly.  It means playing the 360, the Wii and PS3.  It's not about that Hardcore and Casual bullshit, it's about your passion for the medium itself!

L-Canceling (Lag Canceling) was added in Melee, in Smash 64 it was S-Canceling (Shield Canceling) and that was a bug.

EDIT: I dont say its a definitive version, I just think that its a better one, SHMUP says its a definitive version xD

Super Smash Brothers was never intended to be a serious, complex, competitive fighter to begin with. In that sense, I find this particular crusade of making Brawl, and the series in general, a more traditional HARDCOREAAAAH game kind of silly, but hey - they bought the game, so they're free to modify it for their own use in my book.

Just because you are used to another version of the game and you prefer that version doesn't make it better.

L-canceling is wrong. You should plan your moves correctly and if you miss any, you should be punished for it. If your moves don't make a sequence, you won't be able to finish it.

I hate the tripping though...

Yes, I do believe this "auto L-cancelling" stuff needs to be fixed in Brawl+. If you have any complaints about it, you should post at SmashBoards. I might do something about it, because it's too easy to make unbelievable combos now with ease. o_O

By the way, I said that they are keeping the best of both worlds. They are keeping stuff from Brawl and not adding other cheap stuff from Melee like wavedashing and teching. Either way, you can add codes to activate those things in your own codeset, this is why they are made public by the way!

@ Maynard_tool:

Too good characters: Zelda, Pit, Meta Knight, Ike, Donkey Kong (he can tank and attack from behind with his punch? What?), Lucas, Wolf (fucking bastard), Snake.

Very bad characters: Ness, Captain Falcon (no move priority, what the hell?), pretty much all the old Melee characters (not Peach/Pikachu though. They're good).

It's easy to see the difference between them in Brawl.

this list is wrong.....outside of captain falcon ( he will always be the worst in brawl).  Characters "too good" equals MetaKnight and Snake Falco and triple D.  Only broken character in brawl is Meta Knight.

Haha, wow. Maybe I went a bit too extreme there on my part. But as you know, I consider myself as a god, so all I say is truth. Bwahahaha! Actually, it was just there to move some people, which kind of worked. Sadly, I brought the wrong people in here. ;)

I especially want to say this to Gnizmo though: I enjoy good gaming when I see it. Heck, I like playing with items too and I can have a good laugh playing Brawl as well, but you can't tell me Brawl is perfect or is definitely a good step in the good direction for players that enjoyed the style of gameplay that the previous Smash games could provide. I heard someone say that the game was built around playing with 4 people and items, so it's normal that they "missed" a few things. Seriously, what kind of thinking is that? Did they build and unfinished game, is that what I'm getting here? What if I want to play seriously? Brawl doesn't really offer me the option to do it. Damn, I know how to play Smash for god's sake! Like I said, I doubt the new "exploits" people found in the recent months made the game "faster", to keep it simple.

Also, I don't believe all I said was wrong or misplaced. There was some truth in there, especially with the tripping and balance.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

no, L-canceling was in the original brawl build....they removed it just before release....and sukurai admitted that he knew wavedashing was in melee

i seriously doubt Brawl+ will overtake the brawl scene......it would have to explode to do so. I personally wouldn't mind although i don't play brawl + I could adapt. I think brawl would be fine if Snake's tilts were fixed and Meta Knight wasn't like fighting a blender. If they would of kept L-canceling the game would be alot more accepted in the competitve scene IMO

Is tripping really that big of a deal?

Yes, a trip in a wrong place can cost or gain player a stock, it's somewhat random and there are only limited ways of manipulating them - but that's the case with critical hits and freezes in Pokemon, and nobody's climbing their bedroom walls or removing them from the game just because of that.
