Forums - Nintendo - BRAWL+: The definitive version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Isn't this the premise of Brawl+? To exactly make it possible?

I'm guessing that quite a few tournament players will throw a hissy fit if the game has absolutely zero guaranteed combos. :p

Besides, if ie. Dededes and Falcos chaingrabs are still in, they aren't exactly close to that goal, anyway.

Lucky for you/us, they're not in anymore. They're balancing every character one by one. I've heard they're now balancing Lucas. Can't wait to see the final result!

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Is there a master list of Brawl+ changes somewhere?

If you're going to promote this to other people, it would be nice to have.

To be honest, those Smash fans that hate SmashBoards don't know what they're missing. Even if you don't like competitive Brawl, the community there is still a very good and informative one. There's no doubt in my mind that the taste for competitive Smash will grow on people if they go there often. It's fun to discover a new way to play your favorite game, if you never experienced it before that is. I experienced it myself without even knowing Smash sites existed on the Interwebs (since the N64, hehe!), but it seems like SmashBoards were always a bit more advanced in strategies and new ways to play than I was. I guess that's because there are a bunch of talented, willing to help members there that want to get the most out of those games! They make amazing guides for each individual characters that can help you perfect your play style every time. That's awesome if you want my opinion. You don't have to copy the strategies they list or show with the help of videos, but knowing simple stuff such as Snake's hitboxes on his tilt moves is always interesting! ;)

Also, I didn't see anyone there enforce their logic of the game anywhere, so I don't really know what you're talking about here. If you're talking about Brawl+, well, those guys are dedicated about making the experience a better one, but they're definitely not forcing you to play their style of game. SmashBoards seems to be more like a resource for information about the various Smash games. I'm not sure if they created the SmashWiki, but that's one good page if they did!

Oh, by the way, I'm kind of new there, so I guess you can call me a "newfag" for now. I never used to visit the site until now. =P

newfag :P

And smashboards made the smash wiki.

@Smashchu2: Oh well then, I guess im an enemy because I talk with good smash players there who actually got better opinions about smash then here, lawl

This is not 4chan, do not go around calling people newfag.

Hmmm, I don't quite understand why I get a moderation warning for calling myself a [insert supposedly bad word here that actually means you are new to something... I think?], but whatever.

Anyways, putting this little issue aside, there are a few threads at SmashBoards about it, Mise. Here are the current ones:

Brawl+ Character Balance: Character 4: King DeDeDe
Brawl+ Character Balance: Character 3: LUCAS

Apparently, the other threads are named differently or something. Not sure where they are. Here's the link to the general Character Balance discussion thread though: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=215168

Also, you can check out their IRC channel. They talk about just anything there (literally)! =P

Okay, after little rummaging around on smashboards.com, I've noticed that apparently Stale-Move Negation has been removed. And I honestly can't see why, since it rewards players for using the right moves at the right time, and punishes people who just spam a single good move.

Is there any reason to this?

Well that way, if you use a character that can kill with 2 or 3 methods and just grind their % like Sonic, its pretty usefull to know that your move wont suck because of stale moves. And they removed only the fact that moves does less KB over time, % gain decreases over time for a move.

I disagree.

If a character only has a handful of reliable kill moves, it creates a challenge of sorts: With move decay, a player needs some tactical skill and presence of mind to use suitable attacks when they're really needed and rely on others when not. It may force a player to use moves they don't really want to (which isn't exactly a bad thing), and may also favor some characters over others, but thems the keeps - and since Sonic is currently top-tier material in Brawl+, if I'm not mistaken, so it doesn't exactly hurt him. Besides, no move loses all its effectiveness after a few uses - you have to spam it pretty consistently in order for it to become "useless".

Also, that nerf is essentially redundant - damage may be what hurts the characters, but knockback is what kills them.

I was talking about vBrawl for the Sonic thing. For Brawl+, it is much easier balancing the game without stale moves since we are working on constants instead of variable data.

If you want to know more about what was changed in therms of move balance, heres a list to a changelist:

Thanks. SHMUPGurus may want to put the link to the OP as well, so potential players won't have to read dozens of threads in order to get an overview of current changes.

And it is easier to balance a game with lesser variables, but scrapping move decay removes a layer of depth from it, and is actually a step back from Brawl IMO.
