Forums - Sony - This is how you play Lair with a sixaxis

You have lair, is it worth the money? And does it give you an epic feel while you play it?

No, rent it. There are moments in the game where you go "Holy s***, that looks awesome" but those are too often overshadowed by the epic disappointment over just getting shafted out of $60 for a game that honestly plays like an early beta.

The last time something gave me an epic feel I spent years in therapy afterward.

Here is a pretty neat vid showing how the controls aren't all that bad.

The delay is horrible... I can see why people complained... it's like a bad 3rd party Wii control system. They don't seem to know how to map the controls 1:1 which is what a lot of Wii games originally had issues doing. Some still have issues pulling it off. I agree the relax and play part is what you need to do with a motion based game but this relies more on "Input first, check input to see if it was a mistake, perform action" instead of Input=output.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

This thread is funny.

Anyways, am I the only one that think that video demonstrates how poor the controls are? it looks unresponsive and finicky.

"another thing people have to remember is that its a dragon.. i read on a couple of reviews that they were mad that it wouldnt turn on a dime.. ITS a freakin dragon"

Except the videos show it having the turning radius of a jumbo jet. And, like you said, It's a dragon. Winged creaturs can turn on a dime, they have the ability to flap their wings! If the Dragons in Lair can do 180's, why must they turn so slowly?

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

QFT, Honestly the video reaffirms what the reviewers said.  The dragon doesn't respond to your commands.  I think it would have been easy for them to allow the dragon to be a lot more responsive and make it feel a lot smoother.  I don't want to pay $60 to fly a dragon with a turning radius 4 times the size of a semi truck's.  It should be a quick agile, firebreathing, killing machine.

Honestly, I have to take issue with everyone trying to defend the game.  It was shown to gaming sites a while back and pretty much all of them expressed concern for the controls at the time and said they were hoping for them to be fixed.  The fact that they didn't take the reviewers seriously and make the controls enjoyable or at least add options to do so is there own fault and the reviews don't pull any punches on the subject because they know they had plenty of time to make the fixes.

If you enjoy the game and the controls are great for you, then truly I am happy its looks like a fun game if the controls don't bother you.  But the rest of us do have a problem and its really a show stopper.

So far, the best way I have seen to play Lair is with a PSP.

Wow...now I see why a lot of PS3 users don't like motion controls...

I mean...it's got quite a delay, and if that's good motion control, I don't want to see bad.

You shouldn't have to be "calm and slow" when making motions...if I want to turn on a dime, that dragon should turn!

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I can't believe:

1/ People here are DEFENDING LAIR

2/ People here are going to BUY LAIR

With so many good games out on ALL platforms this year, this is an extremely foolish thing to do IMO. For heavens sakes, at LEAST rent it first.

And please for the love of god - do not buy it *instead of* another game.

Untill now the only negative issues I heard of Lair are :

Bad controls
Bad framerate
Bad cinematics ( well I only heard that in 2-3 places so I Dunno ) .
