I'm playing it on my PSP. Works fine so far, no freezes/slowdowns/anything like that so far.
And we aren't playing to see whos quickest, look at makingmusic, he talks to every single person in game :D

Remote Play or Emulation?

I got an ISO and converted it into an EBOOT, put it into PSP/GAME/Legend of Dragoon(you can name this folder whatever you want). You need custom firmware though. And its not emulated, PSP is made so that it can run PS1 games actualy.

my PSP has a later firmware
so I can't get a custom firmware on it :(

Since I actually had a small part in PSP emulation back in the day I was thinking before all the custom firmware. lol :P
Yeah this is about the best way to do it here and I'm still so pissed that my two PSPs were stolen from me. I had everything on those damn things including N64 games. It was the shyt!
Of corse I owned all the games I downloaded cause I don't want to cheat game companies. My PS1/N64 collection is HUGE!

*IMPORTANT QUESTION*
Now that shana has a dragoon I may use her
I have a few things to ask:
1. Do characters not battling/not in your party of 3 get experience points when you kill enemies?
2. I hate shana's combat skills....so can I just not use her? Is it advisable to ignore her completely in combat THROUGHOUT the whole game?

yeah don't use her, I did 9 years ago and the only thing I remember from that time was that I shouldn't have used her at all.
you will find out soon enough why you shouldn't use her. 
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing (mostly)
