Damn, PS3 needs a price cut.

I think a price cut now is a useless strategy...

Think about it, if they cut now people will forget about it by the time september rolls around.  Microsoft then drops their price by $50 per SKU and again MS will take the Christmas time frame when sales are serious...

Cutting now might push an extra 150,000 consoles a month through to September...  A price drop in September gives you 150,000 more per week through Christmas.

Sony is in a bad place.  But, they can't panic.

Well they are rumoured to cut the price by $100. Why couldn't they just do a $50 cut now and another $50 cut when the holiday season rolls around?

With recession, with no price drop since 07 and PS3 is up YOY ? Nice.

Wait a minute.... wan't the price cut right at the end of 07?  So this year's numbers are better than post price cut PS3 numbers last year?  Must be the combo of Killzone 2/Resident Evil 5 to barely push it over that.

Yes, But i thought Killzone wasn't a system seller ?

8,000 over last year and 7,000 over last week isn't that many, is it?

But then if you refuse to believe it did sell systems you can't use the excuse that the only reason PS3 sales are up is because of the RE5/KZ2 combo

Euphoria - I think that a $50 cut now really won't do anything.

If Sony was going to drop the price, their best bet was before the onrush of quality Feb-Mar titles to move more systems (KZ2, RE5, ect). That did not happen.

If they want to sell more consoles for the sake of increasing marketshare, they need to do it before the next wave of major games hit...Most likely a September-October pricecut, ala MS 2008, and get the most out of their drop.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

We will possibly find out soon enough right?

I own one already though so no big deal for me. I just want them to give me some more games, preferably not FPS.

I do acknowledge that they sold systems.  I'm merely showing you that they didn't move much

If you ask me these numbers are pretty low. I was expectivng a about half a mill a piece in both America and Others.

To the guy who said Europe is bigger than Americas, sorry dude "Others" is, but you do realize that covers about 70% of the world's landmass right? Not just the EU (think Asia and Australia). As far as single countries go it will be a long time before anyone or even the EU is bigger than the US when it comes to sales.

So ps3 won the RE5 battle even after being pegged as the "inferior" version LMAO. Looks like 360 only has it's high attach rates when it's selling it's multiplayer shooters.

WOW...So RPGs and RTS are now considered shooters...some people are just amazing in the nonsense they post....lol

That may work...  But, my arguement would be that $50 isn't enough to affect sales how they would want it to.  Sony is in a tough place right now... They are under huge pressure to do a price drop, but at the same time this is a very poor time to do one.  MS has played a great game of chess with Sony this generation...  KZ2 is one of the best looking ever.  And it plays pretty solidly... Yet two weeks after release Sony is back to square one on hardware sales.   A price drop of $50, would probably draw them even or slightly above 360 in Europe and Others...  $50 in the US wouldn't get them above 360.  In Japan they don't have a problem so a drop would be targeted at the Wii.

You might be right, but I was thinking about how last year when the PS3 was just $50 more than the Pro it helped to keep the PS3 above the 360 in WW sales andwith a $50 drop it would pretty much be in that same position or dead even, it would help keep the momentum going from now through the summer possibly and then another $50 drop for the holidays could have a significant bump just as the 360's $50 cut did last year around the same time.

I just think it would be a much better option(s) than the rumoured $100 drop.

Great sales for the Wii! Madworld also did good, 60k start is just what i expected (i predicted 100k first week) it should sell steadily for next few weeks.

360 sells great at the moment, and RE5 had some impact

PS3 well it will uderperform in the US, maybe price cut can help but i do not see it happening for a while yet.
