Capcom's strategy as of late just reeks of schizophrenia. Its almost like they themselves have no idea what they're doing in a lot of cases

I for one am all for the RE series shifting to act 2. The first story arc has lasted for 13 years (1996-2009) and is long overdue.

I'm against story arcs lasting for too long. Just look at the Metal Gear series! The whole arc spanned a whopping 21 years (1987-2008)! This means that those devoted fans that followed the entire series can no longer be younger than the late 20s by the time they get their hands on MGS4.

Each story arc should last no longer than 10 years since that's the typical span of a player's childhood. (From 8 to 18 years old) The series should have resolved itself before the player most likely has less time for gaming due to real life issues.

The best thing to happen to the RE series, IMO, is that in each new game you play as a player from the existing gang, and that whatever happens in the previous games are automatically forgotten, just like Mario, Sonic and other series and the James Bond movies.

Looks like Capcom is taking a page from Nintendo and going after new blood instead of catering to their existing fans.

Capcom is full of crap. The characters are what sell the RE games. Look at the history of the series.

RE 1: Introduced Chris, Jill, Barry, Wesker, and Rebecca.

RE2: Introduced Leon and Claire, Ada

RE3: Brings back Jill

RE: Survivor: Introduced Character that were never heard from again.

RE: Code Veronica: Bring back Claire and Chris

RE4: Brings back Leon and Ada from two.

RE5: Brings back Chris.

RE0: Reintroduced Rebecca

By the way does anybody know where Barry is? He hasn't been seen since RE 1.

Capcom will never abandon these characters. They were what made RE. Without them the franchise would have died long ago. They bring these characters back for a reason. Look at the failures that are RE: Survivor, Outbreak and Outbreak File 2.

ACT 1: Resident Evil
ACT 2: Gears of Evil

Where are the scares? the adventuring ? the typewriters ?

The game is good and fun, but not survival Horror anymore!

^Yup, and in future REs they can rotate between starring characters. Since RE5 is Chris/Jill's turn, by RE6 it should be Leon and Ada's turn to have the fun. Then at RE7, Barry/Carlos etc. might jump in again.

Then the cycle continues ad infinitum.

As for the bad guys, they can have one unique dominant bad guy in each story arc, or just have some evil organization that gets defeated, gets back up to be defeated again, then gets back up, just like Bowser/Dr. Eggman etc.

Maybe that instead.
