Forums - Nintendo - Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is the highest rated DS game on metacritic

This forum gets crazier and crazier each day. Jesus, relax guys.

GTAIV was a great game. Tons and tons of money, time, and love created it. It was fun, had a very interesting story, and it really brought great production value and a good gameplay engine into the mix.

It wasn't arcadey like Vice City, and that's what turned a lot of people off. It was more like a crime epic with the back-drop of a videogame, and in that sense, it succeeded rather well. It tried something relatively new, and did it well, and combined with every other excellently done aspect of the game, deserves a place along the heroes that it now chair with.

As for Chinatown Wars, I've never played it, but it looks like it's probably the best handheld GTA ever, by lightyears, and another reason that every DS hater should once again be jealous of our outstanding 3rd party support, and excellent mainstream and underground game lineup.

As for me, personally, seeing reviews like this does my heart good. They might actually convince me to buy a DS game, which I haven't done since OoE.

However, the best DS game shall forever be Elite Beat Agents, and like in all my other arguments, just because in theory my opinion can't be correct...it usually is, so don't fall for the disclaimer. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the godlike.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I doubt this game is actually that good.

I could not imagine this being better than the GTA game on the PSP, but that's just me. At least the DS has a new type of game in it's library.

I haven't even played Chinatown Wars yet Riot, but...anything is better than the GTA on PSP. That mediocre port of a PS2 game did nothing new and everything worse than its console counterparts. It sounds like bias is coloring your opinion. WTF man, the PSP GTA? Ugh.

Wait, that wasn't fair. Here, let me help, read the f'n blurbs:

This is Grand Theft Auto the way you love it: all of the innovation, charm and thrills from its past installations neatly tied together in a creative package worthy of any DS owner.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is a triumph, not just in terms of bringing a difficult game to a new platform intact, but because it actually improves it in the process, and demonstrates a mastery of DS form and function.

Great scope, nice car handling, awesome multiplayer – Rockstar delivers extraordinary GTA quality on a small display.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars continues GTA's legacy as the premiere "sandbox" game design. Though it might look like a lot has changed in the move to the handheld platform, more has been added than taken away.

The game is also unashamedly adult in its content and we, for one, see as a breath of fresh (marijuana scented) air on the platform. Dealing drugs, hand making molotovs, chainsawing people in half, swearing up a storm, blowing people’s heads off with a sniper rifle – it’s all in here, and if you’re underage you had better check with your olds before getting it. Or don’t, and just hide it really well. Whatever works.

For Nintendo-only gamers out there – and these days, there are more of you than ever – this is an authentic Grand Theft Auto experience. It isn't watered down; it's as fun and foul-mouthed as any series-proper installment. While not perfect, it'll suck you in and keep you up at night like a chronic addiction. Hook it to our veins.

Computer and Video Games
A seriously good, fat-free but surprisingly deep GTA experience - that you can play on the toilet.

The definitive GTA? That depends where your tastes lie, but either way there’s no denying this is a masterpiece of handheld gaming.

Chinatown Wars is what I expected -- it takes an understandable few steps back from GTA4, but also takes a couple forward (a touch screen can do that). It's a well-honed "core" GTA on the handheld, not merely a one-to-one clone of its console parents.

GTA 4 is the highest rated game in history.  So you tell me what reviews mean.

All depends of the source.

GTA 4 was overrated, period, end of story, no argument. Even the die hard GTA fans agree that it was nowhere near as good as the reviews made it out to be.

Could the same happen for CW? maybe, I say we wait until we try it ourselves, I'm sure it will be a good game, but we will find out soon if it's worthy of these high scores.

I've heard it is a superneat Drugwars clone.

Also: you can steal cars.

Any game billed as the greatest game ever is always gonna be "over-rated" according to the vast majority of people.

It's a fact.

Always.

You are blaming GTAIV for not being the best game ever in your opinion, and using a degoratory tone in which to do so.

It's not GTAIV or Rockstar's fault that GTAIV wasn't the best game ever in your, and many other's opinions. However, in most people's opinions it was a very, very good game, and a few did and still do believe that it can be ranked as amongst the best games of all time. Surely more people think that about GTAIV than they do about most other games.

Every fantastic game has a fantastic number of haters. Not everyone likes every game.

When you bill a game as "best game ever" it will dissapoint a ton of people, always, everytime, ever.

It's not GTAIV's fault that it didn't live up to EVERYONE's lofty expectations.

It lived up to most of our expecatations, and it vastly surpassed mine. That's why bashing it is bullshit. It's like bashing the sun for being bright, grass for being green, or moon for being pale.

Bashing an amazing game for not appealing to your particular tastes is bullshit.

Moron -http://www.gamerankings.com/ps3/933036-grand-theft-auto-iv/index.html, like one space makes the difference, xbox 360 version is at number 4....  So that place has gta 4 in top 10 twice... now thats a top 10 to be proud of.  Also the PC version is at 376.... Its all just a collection of reviews to make anal people argue about it
