Wii is DOWN 2,866,006 units from 2008!  =(

Note: Wii is once again below 200k units after the boosts from MH3 and WSR ended. Also, it has been beaten (just barely) by both HD consoles in the Americas. Next week, both should beat the Wii by a wider margin and PS3 has a good chance of outselling it WW. It's hard to see the Wii going back to 2008 levels, there's not much in the horizon until the Holidays.

We also know Wii Fit+ will be more expensive than Wii Fit, so we can't say it will be a HW mover, since people will have to pay more now for a balance board.

So far, Iwata's theory about WSR lifting HW sales 6-8 weeks after the launch is wrong, at least in Japan, where sales are going down and are already approaching the sub 20k levels.

well they can make up ground in japan especially since last year, at abt september, wii sales started to decline rapidly. So if they can have a huge october and holidays in japan, it could balance out nintendo's forecast. I think japan will be an improvement from last year starting october, and by a good margin.

However how they will make up ground in other regions is beyond me if they dont announce something big. If they rly think the games alone will help reach there forecast, i must say it would be a very huge risk, hopefully they have something up their sleeve.

What are their projections for April 2010, though? I thought they were only 65 million, and if that's the case, it shouldn't be too too hard, given that this holiday's software should move more than last year's by a good pace, and then there will be even less supply constraints this year (especially given how you pointed out that the monthly production is being far undercut in monthly sales)

I forget if their projections were higher, though.

Note: Sales are down 3 million YoY, and by next week it will be down 4 million FY over FY.

Wii sales are continually going down, this week sales are back into the sub 20k levels in Japan, while in the USA it was outsold by both the HD consoles. No, GH5 didn't help sales and The Beatles Rockband won't either, since they are all multiplat games.

We will have to wait until the first week of October to see if Wii sales stop going down, when Wii Fit + releases, but then again, that game is more expensive than the original Wii Fit (100$ vs 90$) so I doubt it will have an effect on hardware. It will mostly sell to old Wii Fit owners since as a standalone game it will cost 20$ and that's easy to afford. I'd say balance board sales will slow down because of this instead of going up.

Then what the PS3 did could not be expected by almost anyone. It had a monstrous increase, due to a 100$ pricecut and a redesign. 360 is also going up in weekly sales due to the price cuts, almost catching up to the Wii, and sales will only go up until ODST is finally launched. So a price cut would help Nintendo, no matter what people say.

Finally I have to say that Iwata's theory of Wii going up 6 to 8 weeks after WSR launch is a total failure. The game is already out for 6 weeks in the USA, 7 weeks in Europe and more than 10 weeks in Japan, and sales are going down week after week, and coming really close to the lowest figures of the year. Wii sold 182k units this week, making it the second worst week of the year, only 7k ahead of the worst week. By next week, Wii could have it's worst week of since April 1st 2007, when it sold 150k units (Lowest week of the Wii ever).

he isn't just twiddling his thumb & pretending to be happy that wii is down 3 million YOY.....a 1st place console never did that.......cracks are appearing, he is seeing them

darth, shut up... please.  Stop being so presumptious.  I'm not saying tres needs to calm down because "I need to sniff reality" or something.  I'm WELL aware of the situation.  It just doesn't consume me like it does tres and I don't rant about it at every opportunity.

I like this thread, but things are not a gloom and doom as tres seems to believe in my opinion.

My only problem with what you originally posted is that you assume I'm asking tres to chill because I don't want to see reality or whatever.  This isn't serious business to me like it is to you darth.  I enjoy seeing the sales, but I don't wank over them, blow loads, and create dumb thread after dumb thread when my console of choice has a sales explosion.  But anyways, if you wanna step up NOW after everyone's been telling him to chill since BEFORE he came back, go right ahead!
