Wii is DOWN 2,092,784 units from 2008!  =(

Note: Wii is now 2 million down YoY, and we are officially in the 2nd half of 2009.

Comparing 2007 numbers to 2009 numbers, Wii is up in 2009 by 1.5 million so far.

But Wii is trending negatively 2009 vs 2007 since the third week of April. Wii in 2007 has been outselling Wii in 2009 by about 40k - 80k since the third week of April and this last week the gap was the biggest.

I'm not going to call this one correct yet, but Wii could end up very close to its 2007 performance if this trend continues.

So, the Wii's run towards its first 50 million sold was the result of certain factors that have been outlined as before in certain threads, and now we're seeing that it was pretty much true and the Wii might not hit 100 mil?

100 million is not really a given, but it's more likely that it will hit 100 million.

Still, if it comes close to its 2007 performance as shown in my previous post, we could probably say that Wii peaked in 2008.

Time for some colors and a price cut!

Hey trestres, what number is the Wii tracking towards for the end of the year? 65 million?

I think it will be closer to 70m. I think at holiday time there will be 2 2m+ weeks and they will help to up sales massively.

Wii is DOWN 2,270,937 units from 2008!  =(


Note: It looks like the Wii will be able to reach in between 61 - 64 million units LTD by the end of 2009, but it depends on upcoming games, otherwise it could en up not reaching 60 million. The Wii in 2007 had a worst first half than in 2009, but so far in the second half, it's outselling the Wii by about 100k each week, so Wii's second half of 2009 could be worse than that of 2007. If we take that into account and that Wii sold 16.15 million units in 2007, with more than 10 million in the second half, if the current trend continues for the Wii, it may end up selling less than Wii in the second half of 2007. If that happens the the Wii could not reach 60 million by years end.

I think one of the major factors in the raise in sales is hardware supplies. Nintendo has greatly increased its hardware supply meaning all those people who were looking for consoles now can. So the increase in hardware is just the supply catching up to the demand. Honestly WiiFit sales are also boosting Wii hardware sales.

I suspect the sales will continue to out perform 08 for the rest of the year. Maybe start to see a slowdown in 2010!
