My son takes his DS to school. Half the school bus has DS's and they all play Pokemon Diamond or Pearl for whatever reason.

Haha awesome post Dolla! Seriously though I rarely use my PSP for actual purchased games. I have bought 5 games in almost 2 years of owning the system, and one of them I just bought a couple days ago (Jeanne D'Arc, which is awesome). It's not that it goes unused. I play old roms on it a lot, but on my DS I have bought almost 30 games (most recently Rune Factory and Heroes of Mana). darconi, don't count on a price cut anytime before 2008. Anyway, yeah I think the problem is that the PSP has very little remaining 3rd party support, and Sony's 1st party isn't good enough to push the platform alone. Take SE for example: They have 8 PSP games made/in production, but 6 of them are remakes of old games. They have 17 DS games made/in production, including the main game in their second largest franchise, and only 5 of those are remakes. It's pretty much the same accross all 3rd parties. There is the occaissional PSP game, but owning a PSP is like owning a Gamecube that plays old roms but doesn't have Nintendo games. You get the occaissional 3rd party gem, but overall support is very weak. |
Naz, what do you think of Rune Factory? Its on my list of highly want games and its tempting me to get the DS. How is the monster fighting portion integrated with the farming?

I haven't played it enough to know what I think about it. I bought it on Tuesday with Metroid Prime 3, which has taken over all my time. However, I can tell you that from the hour I have put into it so far it is an incredibly gorgeous game, and they really streamlined some of the farming things to make them better. Now you can walk over the crops to water them easier, you can sell crops directly to vendors rather than wait till 6PM for pickups, and a few other things such as crop leveling, more tools/weapons, and faster farming have helped streamline the game.
The way monsters work is you can capture them and use them on your farm. For example one of the monsters gives milk. However, you can also take the monsters into the dungeons with you to act as combat support. I'm sorry I can't tell you more about it yet. I will post impressions whenever I have beaten MP3 and started on Rune Factory as my main game. I can already tell though that this is going to be one of my favorite HM games. Meanwhile, IGN has a great review of the game up: http://ds.ign.com/articles/813/813633p1.html

Thats true in the U.S. as well. My friend and I got DS's at launch, and once good multiplayer games started coming out (tetris, mario kart, metroid prime hunters, new super mario bros, ect) everyone else we were friends with wanted to play to and BAM now all my friends have DS's... I bet thats happening all over the world even |
I wish, I can bring my ds too school and kill people in pokemon diamond. I havent played that game since the last day of school..

Remember that the PSP is releasing a new model shortly and that should account for some of the low sales, though I firmly believe the PSP will never sale much more than half of what the DS sales.
Pokemon Diamond is the one thing that keeps me awake during maths lectures :P

I know that everyone here thinks I am a Nintendo Fanboy (except those that who think I am an X-bot) but I have to say that I am really impressed with the PSP. Nothing has ever survived in the "modern" handheld market that wasn't Nintendo; Sony is making money off of it, and the install base is impressive. I really think that Sony should use this as a model for PS3, on how to make money even if you're not the market leader.
Disclaimer: I don't own a PSP, and actually never played anything but Loco Roco for a few minutes. It seems like a nice piece of hardware, I just have too much hardware already (and never enough games or time to play them).
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
I think the Wii might be driving the DS sales even faster.
