Forums - Gaming - Resident Evil 5 is not Resident Evil.

I've been playing Resident Evil 5 for a little over an hour now and I've come to the conclusion that the game is not quite Resident Evil. Don't get me wrong the game is fun, but it feels much different then all other Resident Evils. And a lot of decisions in the game have been made about it that either don't make sense to me or are obviously to make the game much more casual gamer friendly and westernized.

I've been enjoying it so far, but the more I play the more I start to realize that I have a growing appeitite to play a "real" Resident Evil game. A game where you don't have a sidekick wasting ammo and herbs, you don't spray the herbs like lyscol, you don't have shitty blood animation, you don't have automatic saves all the time with no typewriters, you don't have a quick inventory menu and you can't save inventory set up seperate from the game data, you dont get chapter selection, you don't get a million bullets and you don't get 4 different types of guns within the first 60 minutes of playing.

Does anyone else get this feeling playing the game? And do you think it would be a good idea if they split up the Resident Evil Franchise into two directions? One to stick to it's roots and one to push the game into what it is becoming a more westernized, faster paced, casual game shooter?

Nah. New RE is better.

I agree with you. A fun game nevertheless.

Wish there was some way I could go on the solo missions alone.

I like RE 4 more than the traditional RE, but I like 5 less than 4.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Honestly i didn't find RE 4 scary at all, and it feels exactly the same as RE4. Not scary, however with the music they have in this one and as many guys that are on screen and playing with a friend online trying to make sure they're ok it gets my blood pumping. I believe it's a better game gameplay wise because of co-op. Story I can't say cause I'm not done yet.

Pretty much that's RE series stopped being RE when 4 came out, but I'm not complaining I think it's for the better.

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

Personnally I prefered Re4 to the previous ones in the serie so I like the new direction.
Funny thing is objectively I can't say the game is actually that great on paper, but it's darn fun and addictive when you play it and it's probably one of the games I will play the most in the next weeks ( more than KZ2 and still I recognize KZ2 is better but stuff like upgradeable weapons and all the stuff you can collect will make me play Re5 more lol...).

I hated to have to conserve ammo like mad in the old Resident Evil and then some stupid chapter ended and you restarted the next one without the stuff you had collected and were like pissed you actually didn't use it instead of saving it for nothing...( happened to me once in Code Veronica).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

It may not be Resident Evil, but it's still fun. best game this year so far.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

i dont know why alot of people say RE4 is the best game ever, i'd love the old Resident Evil gameplay instead, those are more deeper and more atmospheric, but they have crappy endings, and funny cliche cutscenes.

This. The atmosphere of RE4 isn't quite there in 5.

you forgot to say that RE is about playing alone instead of a stupid women who partners with you and wastes all her ammo, herbs and health.
