Forums - Sony - Starcraft on the PS3 running Windows hosted on Linux

Yellow Dog Linux 6.1 is quite capable on the PS3 for running OpenOffice.org, Firefox, watching high definition videos, etc, etc like you can on a PC. But I found this interesting, Win95 (which is x86! and thus very hefty to emulate on the Cell's PPE, which is PPC) and then running Starcraft:

Maybe useful to a few if you are using a keyboard and mouse on your PS3 and want to play a RTS. To me its more interesting this runs at all and actually works pretty well! Looks like SPE usage in Linux is increased.

Early 68k MacOS and AmigaOS releases are also already emulated on the PS3 using Yellow Dog Linux and usable enough to run some classic applications.

Regarding games emulation Snes, Amiga and classic Arcade games are fun to play, if for example you want to use the wireless PS3 controller and want to play on your living room HDTV.

This is old...

Nice for people who didn't know about it though. I'll still play on my comp though.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

@ NicholasCage

Was there a thread here on VGChartz? Due to moving to a new home I was little online, I was on a temporary lousy connection for about 2 months.

Me too, at least with regard to most mouse and keyboard controlled stuff. I don't want that lying around in my living room. But with regard to classic games which play well with the PS3 controller, I prefer this.

I thought this is more interesting from a technical perspective.

That video was posted 3 weeks ago dude...

You could always run Starcraft on a PC running windows? Actually its probably more interesting that they got Windows running on it more than anything. That in itself is worth a little lulzsor.

Tease.

And pc games One tenth the power of a ps3 can run this game twice s well. Then again, running obsolete games obsolete an obsolete architecture is always fun.
