Forums - Nintendo - RUMOR: GTA Wii hinges on success of GTA: Chinatown Wars

a handful have broke 1m. Call of Duty: World at War is at 970k. So I would say the non-niche genre M rated games have sold well.

Cheers.

You Nintendo folks are most friendly. Might have to get a Wii to join in more. I really do need to play SMG. Just wish it was cheaper.

I really want a GTA on the Wii. I would have expected one on the Wii long before one on the DS. O_o

But I'm getting Chinatown Wars next week! :D

I'm personally pleased that there is finally a GTA focusing on the gangsters from my home country, the Triads!

If there were to be a GTA Wii, I guess they can continue using their comic book graphics.

^I would actually prefer a more serious look for GTA on the Wii. :-p

That would be complete idiocy if true. A proper GTA game would take 2-3 years to develop so if they're waiting for GTA:CW results then we won't see a GTA WII (excluding PS2 ports) until 2011/2012 when we might already be entering a new generation? Not happening.

I'd wager good money Take Two has one in development right now and we'll see it late 2009 or 2010.

My thoughts exactly.

It is far too late in the game to be taking a wait and see approach.

I tell you what though if they do make a GTA Wii it better not be no PS2 port.

It's too late to be taking a wait-and-see approach, but perhaps they already have a project in pre-development, and they are waiting to see if Chinatown Wars bombs to pull the plug early.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I guess how much they invest in GTA:Wii will be directly related to how many copies it has sold on the DS.

Its not too early at all. Developing for Wii is quick and easy. Also, why would it be too late to release in 2011. Given the 6yr cycle 2012 would be the year of a successor for Wii, but the 6yr cycle is probably to short for this gen. They could start this year in autumn and probably have a Wii GTA ready by christmas 2010 or march 2011. They could always re-use the engine and assets from the ps2 era GTA's.

The problem is... it's a lot easier to play games on the DS for free. So, many people might play and enjoy this game, but the sales won't reflect this (even though I'm sure it'll sell well enough)
