Forums - Sales - Street Fighter IV. What happened?

Capcom shipped 2 million units.

But what's happening with the sales?

XBOX360

PS3

America seems like the most active territorie for the game but still I think it's far from Capcom's expectations. Are new generations uninterested on 2D fighters?

The exact same thing happened with DMC4 last year, no real surprise.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

It's not that uncommon to overship. Remember Bethesda shipping 4 million units of Fallout 3 at launch?

I could be wrong, but I think the traditional "Fighting" genre is slowly fading away.

As for Street Fighter IV, Japan would have been a big seller if the game wasn't out in the arcades for a long period of times before the release to consoles.

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

...nothing can come from nothing...

... No clue. Maybe SF just isn't that big,or sales have to leg it out.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

The sales are pretty good, I thought they would be far worse.

LOL

The game is impossible to beat thats why no one is buying it.

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

The fighting genre isn't as popular as it once was, although i'm still very disappointed by sf4 sales. i was expecting it to blow past sc4.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

Take a look at the past Street Fighter games. Despite the fact that Capcom has made a lot, 4 of the 5 titles are versions of Street Fighter 2. The franchise has been dead since. The problem  is that

  1. Capcom flooded the market. They milked one game, and buyers got bored. Consumers like sequels becuase it meets two essentually requirements. The sequal is more of the same (which is why the consumer bought the first title unless they returned it) and its new content. You need both for a successful sequel. Capcom did not have the latter, and the franchise died
  2. Capcom focused on it's core consumers. Rather then try and get new players to enjoy Street Fighter, they catter to the old fans. This nis why Street Fighter is one of the best tournement games, but sells horribly. This is why Smash Bros must never be focused on as a tounrement game less it face the same fate. You can tell by playing the game. It's more of the same while adding so many features that only competitive players will take advantage of.

I'll be honest, the sales of SF4 were better then my predicition.
