OK 1 million seller in 2 weeks is awesome ,But seeing that it was in development for almost 5 years makes it a flop
just think of all the people that worked on that game for five years ! just so it can sell 2 mil lifetime . thats got to be heart breaking !and thats why i encourage going multiplat, at least this gen.

@Bolded

No.

And how is a first party studio going to go multiplatform? And in what way could you "encourage" them to do so?

Geez, there are going to be a lot of swollen palms after everyone slaps themselves because of these stupid comments

Not too sure, once I heard 800,000, another time it was 2.5mill. Let the speculation begin :D

I don't think it's 2.5 million.

But with marketing it is definitely well up towards that end of the spectrum.

Either way, it is evident this title will not make much money for Sony.

u don't know and u will never know

i think it will make sony money in a kind of intangible way.

kz2 is clearly showing off the capabilities of the ps3 which can impact people's purchasing decisions in the future.

thanx for using "I think" and not stating facts and trolling my thread like some poster did.

if u ask me I don't know how much money it will make

What is with everyone jumping on starcraft's comment?

"if u ask me I don't know how much money it will make"

Thanks for sharing. Next time dont waste screen space with such a useless comment. There seems to be a virtue surrounding KZ2 sales where the less someone knows the more credible they can claim to be. Armchair quarterbacking is fine on vgchartz guys, its not like starcraft's prediction is being paid for or given any type of analytical weight. Acting like you are superior to him though by claiming ignorance is insulting and, again, a waste of everyones time. Leave the discussion if you are clueless and you have so little motivation that you refuse to make even an educated guess.

i'm jumping at his comment because it's pure trolling and u supporting it is ....... well u decide.

I would rather him say "I actually don't know" than say "It will not bring in profit. This is fact because I said so".

See the difference there? Ignorance can be fixed with facts. However facts can't be fixed with ignorance (Starcraft doesn't know what the game needs to sell either, but he blindly claims "it's evident it won't make money")

You too can slap yourself.

thanx :D

Check this out.

People think this isn't that good or that it is "expected".

The fact that it is selling on par with CoD: W@W is a great sign.
The fact that it is selling on par with CoD: W@W despite releasing in February as opposed to the holiday season is an even greater sign.

Also if I am not mistaken MGS4 costs upwards of 60M right? They said in order for the game to break even they needed to sell around 1M first week.

Wouldn't this mean KZ2 is most definitely going to turn a profit?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

plus these are only sales numbers

Exactly!

Odds are that even with these ridiculous speculations about dev cost and advertising, of which they have no damn clue to begin with, the game most likely already brought in profit.

We have a little too much of this lately when it comes to Killzone 2 discussions.

LOL!!!!

That's what gears made in the first day hhihih and by the way the guy who is comparing KZ2 sales with CoD WaW give me a break CoD WaW is a comedy in terms of FPS Sales... why don't you compare with CoD MW oh let me guess you just can't!!!

Thanks for keeping this civil. There's nothing that convinces an adversary of your point of view more than telling them to slap themselves. I guess we can add "childish" to "ignorant" for you, at least.

I would rather him say "I actually don't know"...

And why would you rather him do that? There's no need to tell anyone you don't know this or that. No one asked for your vacuous musings on the sales of some game. By asking him to say "I don't know" what you are actually doing is asking him, and anyone else with an opposing viewpoint, to avoid questioning the accepted logic in this thread that KZ2 WILL make money, a similarly ignorant and unfounded statement.

So once we have established that both sides are talking out of their asses, why should you bash starcraft for claiming this side or the other and not bash the mutlitude of people who claim that KZ2 will "probably" or "most likely" make a profit, and who, when push comes to shove, would squarely plant themslves in the "yes" category when asked "Will KZ2 make a profit?" without any more evidence than starcraft?

My axe to grind is with you and others claiming some sort of superiority of judgement or knowledge because you claim not to know something. Forums aren't in place so that you, blackstar, and others can circle jerk each other by serenading "we just don't know"  back and forth. I'll admit starcraft should follow up with some type of expanded argument, but your claims of enlightened ignorance are laughable and a waste of space.

@blackstar

Brilliant rebuttle, you really showed me. Copy and pasting my own line against me? Shite man, you're on fire.

As I mentioned in the sales comments section:

KZ2 is tracking almost identical to COD: WAW (PS3 version.)

KZ2

Week 1: 718k
Week 2: 320k

COD: WAW
Week 1: 735k
Week 2: 322k

I don't think it will be able to hold up as well in the coming weeks, given that we aren't entering a holiday period, but I think it's safe to say at this point that KZ2 should reach 2-2.5 million handily enough.

Despending on how Killzone 2's sales curve down, I think it will settle with higher weekly sales than World at War in a couple of months.

World at War's week 1/2 sales were also affected positively by the holidays, and had both games been released simultaneously, I'm pretty sure Killzone would've won, and I think it'll settle at higher "post-holiday" weekly sales than World at War (ie, around week 10).

I also think it's funny that GameStop raised their price for a used copy of Call of Duty 4 back to $55 from $45, while they dropped World at War to $45.  It shows which game people like more.

If we take the rumoured costs of 70 million dollars (I hope it wasn't euros). And take the 37 dollars publishers+developers make on a game (a number which I picked up somewhere on this site). Then 70 million / 37 = 1,9 million to break even. But Sony does charge more for their games then other publishers do (at least in the Netherlands) and the Euro is strong against the dollars. So they would probably need less than 1,9 million and they've already given a preorder number of 1,1 million for Europe. So they must have made money on it already. QED

The rumor said $60 million dollars, and that rumor originated from Surfer Girl.

This is getting worse and worse, I swear.

It probably cost north of $50 million, but we don't know anything specific other than that it cost more than $21 million USD.

where did I say profit??

I said I don't know -and no one does and yes that's including u and starcraft- how much money it will make.

I copy and pasted to save time and no I'm not on fire I'm on my comfortable chair , it's really comfortable if u ask me.

Very nice, over 1,000,000 sold.
