Forums - Sales - With U.S sales still pending, predict whether Halowars will outsell KZ2 .

Well the numbers are in, and I have to say I am surprised... KZ2 lifetime will easily outsell HW... that is impressive :o It seems that the Halo name is not as huge as I thaught it would be... at least not in other genres outside FPSs...

IMO the real question is if releasing HW hurt the future sales of H3: ODST... maybe some casual Halo players wont try again, seeing that they burnt their hands with HW...

No, what makes you think casuals even bought this? its not as if it sold anywhere close to Halo 3's 3.8 million first week.

and Halo Wars>Killzone in America which what the OP was talking about.

The game did 600k first week worldwide... I doubt that all of them where hardcore gamers.... and lets be honest its obvious that many of those copies where not sold because its the RTS of this generation but because it has the Halo name tacked on it...

Im glad that they finally departed from the FPS genre, but lets be honest, sales wise, it might not have been the best decision ;) It could only hurt the IPs selling and hardware moving power in the longrun, and IMO a more conservative 3rd person shooter aproach ( GeOW style ) would have been a better decision...

would you mind saying why think Killzone is a flop hatmoza? 9.2/10 after 250 reviews? Most pre-orders for a Sony first party game? Boost that led to PS3 outselling 360 for the first time since September? Slapping all the naysayers in the face?

Kz2 if you don't count the Halo wars people return becuse they thought it was a FPS

I have the Halo Wars case in front of me.

A quick, casual glance easily determines it to be an RTS.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Halo wars seems to be selling more globally. In the long run HW will most likely outsell kz2

I just finished Halo Wars and it was awesome.  There is NO conceivable way that releasing a good game in a different genre can hurt future sales of a game in the original genre.

yeh but there are some seriusley stupid people out there. I'm sure some bought it thinking it was a shooter at brought it back. That being said, those numbers are so extremely minute that they would not have any impact on sales IMO.

Yes it can... bealive me if lets say Gran Turismo would take the quality minigame route it would hurt the franchise in the longrun, even if the game swould have an over 90% rating...

Also, lets be honest, even if the presentation is amazing, HW did not brek no critical records, not even for a console RTS. As far as Ive seen this game it doesnt takes console RTS much further then the N64 version of Starcraft or the PS version of Warcraft 2, and those are 5th gen games... and IMO critical reception prooves that Im right. Its a great game, but with an ~ 82% rating its nothing groundbreaking. Its a solid, good looking, cool console RTS, which happenes to have one of the biggest gaming IPs supporting it, so it also has some great sales ;)
