Forums - Sony - What is the big deal about white knight chronicles?

It's also made by Level 5 who hasn't made a bad game yet.

They usually focus on gameplay unlike other companies so their games stories aren't the best but still good.

Ugh, play Rogue Galaxy.

WKC hasn't been hyped since the unimpressive fan reaction and Famitsu reviews. It could still end up being great, but honestly, I have always found Level 5 to be lacking in the narrative department, despite having fair, yet basic gameplay. I've never played Jean'DArc.

Anyway, hyped died for this game bigtime a few months ago. No denying that. I'm sure the train will start up again if anything happens, and/or around launch time.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

People who constantly frequent forums and read news sites aren't nearly as large of the audience as you think they are, they are a pretty small percentage of the entire gaming population and then people who are fans of JRPG's are an even smaller subset of that.

So again, if JRPG fans are a small subset of a small subset of total gamers, why would this game be majorly hyped because it's a JRPG?

That doesn't make sense, it makes much more sense to say this game is hyped because it is a PS3 exclusive and it's pretty.

-edit-

Think of it something like this.  I know it's nowhere near perfect and not actually right, but it gives you the right idea.

You should first ask yourself if the hype actually exist... the only place where this was hyped at a retail level was Japan where big budget JRPG are still big things. Where is the hype from the Western audience other than JRPG enthusiast? There were some game site exposure and a few feature article but other than that there really hasn't been much real hype behind this game in the west due to its exclusivity. If anything the fact that its a Level-5 game generated more hype than the fact that its a PS3 game.

I've seen a bunch of threads hyping this game up and how it looks cool and everything. I havn't seen anything on it so I know completly nothing on this game, besides the title. Are there any trailers/gameplay video links that any of you guys have? Also what type of game is this? According to some threads I think it might be a JRPG. Thanks for the help if anyone has a link

Its a JRPG on the PS3. There are not to many of those so of course it will get hyped.

Your chart is not right twestern. Frequent forum goers that are JRPG fans are only a handful amount of people, only a representative amount of the global amount of JRPG fans. Sales would be much much lower otherwise

Think it like this, take the amount of frequent forum goers which are a representative amount of hardcore gamers. Among them there are, say, 10% of them being JRPG fan. Apply this percentage to whole number of hardcore gamers and you have the amount of JRPG fans.

White Knight Chronicles, review from RPGFan: 70/100

WKC review from Famitsu: 29/40

Well...
This doesn't look AAA like Valkyria Chronicles, Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey.

I can do that too. We both know that JRPGs haven't been given much of a fair shake this generation.

Look! This website gave Lost Odyssey a 5/10! That must mean it sucks, right? No. Not at all.

But the reviewer for the site that reviewed the game admitted on NeoGAF that he didn't know how to play the game properly.

So then you agree with my point that reviews don't matter a whole lot.

@ Mirson

There was a lot I enjoyed about it. Story wasn't fantastic, but I didn't think it was terrible.

I was able to finish Rogue Galaxy but Persona 3 wasn't able to hold my interest.

I don't know what P3 has to do with this unless it's sort of 'retaliation' because I didn't like Rogue Galaxy given the reasons listed above. Many will agree Rogue is Level-5's worst work, and many will agree the story is terrible. A lot of missed opportunities in the character department.

Unlike gamespy, RPGFan dedicate themselves to reviewing RPGs. They are well respected among RPG gamers, and they're one of the few who give JRPGs high scores; I rarely see them give an RPG lower than an 80. The RPGFan contributor who reviewed WKC loves Level-5 (according to his profile), but he gave WKC a 70%. He even acknowledged in the WKC review that Rogue Galaxy's story is terrible, and White Knight is far worse. Not many trust Famitsu anymore.
