Not usually, and especially not on LCDs and plasma displays. The reason for this is not unique to the Wii; it happens with any content of a resolution lower than the screen's native one.
The reason for this is that unlike CRTs, LCDs and plasma screens cannot truly change their resolution. Instead, they fake it by upscaling the content to their native resolution. You can verify this yourself if you have an LCD or plasma monitor for your computer; just change your resolution to anything other than the highest one offered.
The problem is that the built-in upscaling hardware in most monitors sucks. I'm talking Cap'n Cheapo's Discount House-O-Silicon here; that's how badly it tends to be. This is, of course, to cut costs. One way around this is to use an external upscaler; one now exists for under $100, but for the most part they're hard to come by. If you can find one, though, it's the best way to get a decent-looking Wii game on an HD screen.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.
