Forums - Sales - MS is playing dirty, I commend them (360 sku rumors).

Dude, can you tell me what's dirty, if this actually would be M$s tactic?

An arcade with 20 gig would be very nice.

pro+wifi already=same price as the PS3 for less hard drive capacity, no blu ray and no online gameplay. Add in even one year of Live and the 360 is more then the PS3.

I don't see how the value proposition really changes here unless they are going to start throwing in online for free or include wifi (which the cheap Wii has had from the beginning, it can't cost more then 10-15 dollars to implement).

 you didnt even read........

he Pro has things the PS3 doesnt have. $100 of bundled games, component cables, headset, $100 less sku wise, and if the rumors are ture, a HDMI cable and another $20 less sku wise.

360 has value too, gaming value.

does getting kung fu panda free really count as a perk?  I wouldn't play games like that 10 minutes if I was being paid.  The bundled games have been consistantly pretty awful (compared with the PS3 which bundles REALLY good games like Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 that people actually want to play).

I got component cables with my PS3, I don't think thats a difference.  The Wifi overwrites the 100 dollar SKU savings (I mean 100 dollars for non N wifi?  Come on, you can get a linksys card for a PC that does N for 30 bucks or less).  Live overwrites the HDMI cable and cheap 10 dollar headset.

Any way you slice it the 360 is not a particularly good value proposition.  It has a low entry price, but then the accessories cost ungodly ammounts (120GB HD for 150 bucks, 100 bucks for wifi, 50 dollars a year for online play ect).  You can have a 500 GB seagate hard drive you can put in the PS3 for 60 bucks, wifi is free and online play is free, now thats after purchase value.

The new games will probably be more modern and possibly more attractive to gamers like us. But as for Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones.........at the very least you can pawn them to get a discount on your next purchase. PS3 gives you no such option.

You listed PS3 bundles that ARENT the standard $399 PS3. Standard, the $399 PS3 offers 0 games in the box.

The PS3 doesnt come with component cables, your thinking of another inferior type of cable the PS3 comes with. WHy include LIVE fees? Thats optional and to be honest, the value LIVE adds only strengthens the 360 arguement.

Sorry but the PS3 isnt better value, at least not from a gaming perspective. If anything, I have sales trends to back me up, the market clearly thinks the 360 is a better value for money.

they are all ready beating PS3, this would be kicking them while they are down.

currently: Xbox 360 $199.99 - PS3 $399.99. Xbox outselling PS3 around 50K WW each week until last week PS3 got boosts all around the world at outsold X360 by around 15K.

Coming up: PS3 to recieve more exclusives boosts around the globe, 360 to recieve NONE (or close to none, from exclusives). PS3 to get a price cut (as rumours and other evidence indicates as early as April), X360 to recieve a little cut and good upgrades.

If the Xbox 360 WAS unable to DESTROY the PS3 last X-mas with half the price-tag and games like GoW2 and Fable 2, and currently with the same price is still unable to gain any positive momentum (as a matter of fact, it's been losing it quickly) expect things to go sour for them as the software support for PS3 is announced and coming strong this year and the price cut along with it will make it a one-two punch MS will have very little to counter with.

I don't see how any of those suggestions are MS playing dirty. MS certainly plays dirty, but giving added value to the customer and making their products more attractive doesn't count as it. It's the media campaign they are paying for behind the scenes to attack their competitors that is dirty. It's the way they force gamers to pay for a service that they can get for free on other platforms (esp PC) that is dirty. It's the way they gouge customers for accessories that is dirty. Price cuts, bundles, added features and such as they have done them with the 360 are fine.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I doubt the 20GB HDD will be added unless its flash. Even then I wonder if they will stick to 10-12GB (4GB for game cache) + 6-8GB for user content such as Arcade titles, movie rentals etc.

HDMI cable is actually fairly significant, many people are used to thinking they cost $50 in store due to being jipped on them.

If they upgraded the Pro it would probably be to 120-180GB, that way its bigger than PS3 SKUs and it costs money to change as they have to discount older stock.

Also I wonder if they will cut the price of the wireless to $50-$60 with 3 months Live? They'd still be making hella profit on that.

Tease.

lol quite the optomist. PS3 exclusives like KZ2 arent giving major long lasting boosts.

And funny how you only talk about the 199 Arcade. The Pro sells well too, at 299. And 360 did destroy PS3 last christmas, a slaughter. It was jan-august PS3 numbers that softened the global sales blow.

Keep dreaming buddy, but ur gonna stay in last place for a long time.

^I'm gonna stay at last place? I'm not SCEA or anything, I'm just a consumer lol. Or do YOU work for MS?

MS didn't destroy shit as they couldn't outsell the PS3 2:1 not even in their turf, USA. That's a pretty pathetic victory having HALF the price and a BIG franchise sequel like Gow2 for the holidays. It didn't last long anyway.

Whatever. I find it laughable Microsoft's gaming division is so DESPERATE that even with their current lead and price-tag, they are shaking, I've never seen that before in my life!! A console priced half the competition, winning in sales, and less than 6 month after a global price-cut peeing in their pants already??? The truth is, they'd better stay put when the PS3 cut happens, 'cause if they do something rash as to get themselves into the red again (by doing premature cuts, as little as they'd seem, and incrementing hardware costs adding stuff for new SKUs) that will bury them for sure!

im gonna put this disclaimer before the rest of my posts in the gaming section:
I Own A PS3, 360, Wii and a PC, I Own Several Games On Each Platform, i am not a fanboy

OT: The 360 looks like winning second place easily at the moment

It changes if Blu Ray isn't worth very much/anything and if Wifi isn't needed. Both are ture for a lot of people.
