Benelux Video Game Market 2008:

Netherlands 3.03 8.10 11.13 1.48

Benelux Total 80.69 508.70 589.39 493.00 1082.39

So I presume Luxembourg is included in one of either Netherlands or Belgium.

Also the ratios for software and hardware are quite different between the two countries, Netherlands is less than 1.5* Belgium for software, but much more for hardware. So either games are more expensive in Belgium, hardware more expensive in Netherlands, or the Dutch buy more games per console than the Belgians.

Unless there is a further option involving what is constituted as "hardware"?

w00t! at least 300 euro of that came from me!! :)

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

No data is available for Luxembourg, but with a population of under 500k it makes up less than 2% of Benelux population.

As for software to hardware value ratios, you can't really infer attach rates from hardware value. X360 software is generally the same price as PS3 software, but there is a big difference in hardware pricing between the two consoles. If X360 was more popular than PS3 in one country than the other it would be reflected in lower hardware value ratio.

Consoles generally have the same pricing across much of the Eurozone, so I don't think there should be any difference in pricing between the two countries.

Hopefully we'll get Belgian hardware numbers next month in ADESE annual report which should answer the question.

Hardware is simply consoles, it does not include accessories.

Also, in before "where is Benelux?" :P

Well I hadn't thought of that... but the last time I remember PS3 being a bigger force (comparably) in Belgium than in Netherlands.... Of course that could have changed.

So every benelux inhabitant spended around 20€ for buying a video game. I am interested how that compare to other regions.

And oh the DVD market shrinked while blu ray is gaining ground. I wonder how it will be next year.

PS3 Vs X360 was a pretty bad example as despite being a smaller market Belgium actually has a larger installed base of PS3 than Netherlands. That was just an example to explain my point though. Other examples could be handhelds being more popular in one market than the other, or last gen (PS2) being more popular in one country than the other. When you combine all of those possibilities then it becomes pretty much impossible to infer attach rates from value. We need unit sales, which hopefully we should get soon.

I am going to bump this up for the other Benelux members.
